So we decided as it was so nice for the next couple of days we would take the motorhome out for a few days. It's great to just jump in it and go anywhere you fancy. We have seen so much of this country which if honest would not have happened if we had not had lockdown and not been allowed to leave the UK. Now we need to give the motorhome a name I have decided, so any thoughts on a name drop me a line.
We are up early and as we have already used the motorhome this year it is really quick to get on the road. So we set off to a site called Teesdale Barnard Castle. Now the jokes start, yes we are going to look for Spec Savers whilst at Barnard Castle. If you are not English reading this you will be wondering what the heck is she talking about so here is a synopsis.
One day this man who was a government advisor to Boris (our leader - yes I know some of you would dispute this but he is our prime minister) whose name was Dominic Cummings. Now our Dominic caught
Covid 19 during lockdown. When the UK was in lockdown that meant no one could leave home unless it was for an emergency. But our Dominic, who bye the way lived in London, decided he would drive from London to his parents home in County Durham. Then, guess what, he took his family out for the day to Barnard Castle. Well you can imagine the outcry from the country as we were in LOCKDOWN. People could not see their relatives or go and visit someone in hospital because we were in LOCKDOWN. Anyway our Dominic when found out did an interview in 10 Downing Street’s garden where he was interviewed by the BBC and explained that he was only checking his eye site by taking a 30 minute or so drive each way!!!! Now you can imagine how I felt when I could not see my dad in hospital whereby unfortunately he died - not a happy lady to say the least.
Anyway let's not dwell on this totally hypocritical Dominic but it has made Barnard Castle very popular and everyone looks for Spec Savers - also Brew Dog a brewing company decided to name one of its beers
Who should have gone to Spec Savers
Think it should have been me as well as Dominic! “Barnard Castle Eye Test IPA”.
So off we trot to see Barnard Castle. I must admit that I did not know it was a ruin and not only that it is closed until 1st April so who now should have gone to Spec Savers, ha ha
We walked around the town and there are some really lovely little shops and cafes and also a lot of charity shops. Once we had walked around the town and had a coffee or tea in my case I saw a sign for The Bowes Museum and thought let's go and have a peep. Well I was absolutely amazed. The building was like a French chateau. I had never heard of John and Josephine Bowes or even knew anything about the silver swan. How amazing though that John and Josephine collected so many treasures and actually collected all these items to put in this museum that they had had built.
So back to the campsite and in March we are sat outside having a BBQ.
