We have about an hour for dedicated writing time this morning, which I spend overlooking an amazing cove of deep green water. (For any chemists out there, it looks like the color of copper in solution.) The rocks are red and it reminds me of southern Utah in a way. After the writing’s done, we set out on a long hike down the coast to Weymouth, a classic English beach holiday town. I think this hike was my favorite so far. We hiked the cliffs along the coast, which are chalky white and completely perfect. No wonder this coast is a world heritage site—and no wonder I saw a sign saying you aren’t allowed to take photography for publication without written permission, although I find it very strange to in this way “copyright” a coastline. But ... read more

Dear Bo and Dud, We’ve had a busy time since I last wrote to you. The Easter holidays were spent in Dorset; I can highly recommend this area - the traffic can be a bit of a nightmare but overall well worth a visit. We stayed just outside Weymouth at Chickerell. Weymouth is a lovely sea side town, it has a long promenade, harbour, and excellent beach and sea bathing. We have George III to thank for making this resort famous in the 17th & 18th century. Having listened to the shipping forecast for years Portland Bill was high on the agenda for a visit and what a surprise it was. You know how you conjure up visions of what a place will look like? Well this was nothing like I imagined. It’s a thriving community ... read more

Headed to Weymouth for the weekend for Stella's birthday. Steve picked me up from work at about 3 pm Friday, drove in the horrendous traffic to get Sandra from Fords at Dunton. Following this had the 'Sat Nav' to work out the best route to get to Weymouth. Seemed to take ages and stopped once for a fab hot chocolate, playing silly games best of which was ‘What animal am I?’ Arrived at our B & B on the seafront at about 9 pm. Stella and Wayne had arrived about an hour before us. Settled in our rooms and then headed out for some food, decided to get a cab to a good Indian in town. Lovely food and good conversation, even had some hubbly bubbly before grabbing a cab back. Realised that I had ... read more

We finally arrived in Weymouth in the evening after spending soooo long stuck going nowhere on the M25! We checked into the BnB and sorted our stuff out. Steve, Sandra and Jan arrived after us and we all headed to town for curry for dinner. We ate lots and lots of yummy curry, it was fairly late and everyone was exhausted from the long journey so instead of the planned pub crawl we went back to the BnB to bed! We woke and had cooked brekkie at 9am (oh my god I’m a veggie, what do I eat… lol). We then went for a walk along the sea front (getting sand blasted due to the high wind levels). We looked for a fridge magnet for Jan and eventually found one of the right level of ... read more
