Christchurch was a lovely surprise today. Several people had recommended going there, but I wish they were more adamant about how much history and British charm there is at the site. Once you walk past the regular high street, you enter the church and quay historic section…all very lovely. The large church was one of the nicest I have visited. The volunteer told me the reason why English churches are so plain. King Henry dismantled monasteries, and then Oliver Cromwell ordered every church wall to be white washed and all the excessive statues to be removed. He even used this church as a horse stable! Now it is an active church all year long. This explains why Canterbury cathedral is with out colours. After the church, I walked through the gardens to the quay and had ... read more

Friday 14th We were visiting Christchurch for the Flowerfest and arrived in good time for the Mary Poppins inspired Flower arranging demonstration with afternoon tea at the Captain's Club hotel. The hotel overlooked the river and the little ferry boat was decorated with flowers at it ferried passengers to Chrustchurch Quay. Time for a drink before the ofher guests started to arrive, The doors opened at 3pm and a warm welcome was given as we were directed to our table, the beautiful circular tables looked wonderful with bottles of clear, blue & pink bottles/co trainers filled with amazing flowers & embellished with Mary Poppins deign ribbons. We were served with a choice of tea or coffee and each guest had a delicious 3 tiered stand containing finger sandwiches, savouries, scones and cake delights including a nod ... read more

Przeszliśmy obok kościoła, małym parkiem wzdłuż rzeki Avon w stronę ruin zamku Christchurch Castle zwanego również Hill Top Castle Keep pocho... read more
