I am really getting into the climbing this year and spent an awesome weekend with the Royal Navy climbing club down at Baggy Point in c Croyde. Got some good climbs in on friday and saturday once the rain had cleared up! For the first half of saturday we hid away in a cafe waiting for the rain to stop so we could go out and play. Sunday was really poo and we didnt get any climbs in at all! The weather was bad with fairly string winds so after a chat we all disppeared home which was sad but the way with sports like this. Day 388 We dug out the camping gear (strangely slightly excited about the prospects of returning to a tent!) and loaded it all into our hire car with Sarah and Bill. We set off with Sat Nav in control and cruised along the freeways in brilliant sunshine and minimal traffic. Things we going all too well and we stopped to pick up some supplies and managed to get lost in the small town of ... down the tightest street possible with barely enough room for our small car to squeeze through let alone the 4WD that reversed down it towards us. Living in Croyde felt like i was a million miles away from my old life in Manchester. Sharing a house with 4 other surfers (and the lovely Martina) meant that if we were not out surfing or working together, then we would probably all be chilling at the house watching surf movies and talking about surfing instead. Hanging around with people who loved surfing as much as ... read more

Today we were closer to populations. We started by walking through and around Croyde to the beach. I met some people from Wales who had visited Western and Central Canada. The flowers were beautiful because it rained heavily this morning. We delayed starting by 45 minutes until it stopped – for the whole day, thank goodness. After watching people playing in the surf (wearing wet suits), we moved on to a National Trust site, Baggy Point . This is where smugglers used to operate. The rocks are murderous, being slate that has risen vertically into the coast line. A lot of families and twenty-somethings were walking on the path. The morning passed in walking along the coastline, on grassy paths, with a spectacular view of url=https://www.visitdevon.co.uk/northdevon/things-to-do/woola... read more
