Ok, so my bags are packed and I think I've got everything. I've set up this blog so mam and everyone else can keep track of where I am and what I'm up to. I'm gonna try and keep it as updated as I can with where I've been and what I've been up to so everyone knows I'm OK and they don't have to worry. I'm excited about tomorrow but a little bit nervous too. I think I'm more worried about the connection in Doha than anything else but I'm sure that won't be a problem. well thats all I think I need to write for now, next entry well be from somewhere in kathmandu!!! ... read more

Hi Guys. Having repaired my gear cable I set off from Chester along the Wirral Peninsula towards Liverpool. Again I was amazed at how beautiful some of the locations are in and around the city. In particular on the Wirral one becomes instantly aware why so many footballers live there. The best thing about crossing the Mersey is that the Ferry plays "Ferry across the Mersey" when you disembark. Superb. A brief stop in Blackpool I just simply had to ride the "Big One". It is the biggest and fastest roller coaster in Europe and it certainly deserves that reputation. Wicked. Blackpool whilst a typical British Seaside resort has a certain charm to it with trams travellling up and down the High Street and Blackpool Tower of course. The illuminations no doubt have an impact on ... read more

Settling In - Thursday Well, it’s late Friday evening and the entire camp is set up and ready to go! The advance party arrived Thursday at 3.30pm and began the difficult task of building a tented village for over 50 of us. By the time it was dark, most of the canvas was up, we had electric power for lights and refrigeration and the chemical toilets were fully primed and raring to go. Getting ready for Tomorrow - Friday Friday morning saw the completion of the camp, running water and washing facilities installed and we began to build the climbing wall. The wall was completed by tea-time (a record), thanks to Sellars and Andy for that. The “main” party arrived at lunch-time and were shown to their tents, almost everyone on camp now. The afternoon saw ... read more

This one won't take that long, I hope. What can I say about Amsterdam? Well, I guess the easiest thing to say about Amsterdam is that it is a town in a league of its own. You step off the train and it's like you've stepped back in time about 30 years. Sure it's a modern city but in an old fashioned kinda way. It's a very liberal and free-spirited town, full of liberal and free-spirited people. I suppose that's the nice way of saying it's full of "hippie-like" people who for the most part are so stoned out of their minds to have any care in the world. Whether you like it or not, any visitor to Amsterdam will be surrounded by these people who take full advantage of the fact that soft drugs are ... read more

(To see the new website for Stylecrete go to www.stylecretecumbria.com) As my Dad will vouch I barely know which end of a shovel to hold. Well that was until I started working for a concreting company. Now I know which end to hold, how to saw wood, wheel wheelbarrows, float concrete, pull my pants down so you can see the top of my crack and various other trade secrets. Anyway I thought I’d give you some background on the company and what we do. Firstly there are four of us: - Jock who started the company 17 odd years ago and is supposed to be retired now that he is 66 but probably works harder than any of us. - Andy who is Jock’s son and has now taken over the company. He has said that ... read more

Nicola’s brother who is also called Ryan came up for the weekend from Preston. He had a late bender on the Saturday but had already made the mistake of telling his Dad Frank that he wanted to go for a walk on the Sunday. Therefore in a hungover state he came with Nicola, Frank and I up a mountain called Caw. I thought we had lost him at one stage, but he was just having a quick power nap. It is hard work keeping up with Frank who is super fit and will think nothing of biking 60 odd miles in a day. I think Ryan brightened up when we stopped off at Frank’s favourite pub The Prince of Wales in Foxfield. They make their own beers and do really tasty peach and strawberry beers amongst ... read more

Sunday, July 29, 2007, Glasgow to Carlisle: 6:15am- Get the wake up call. Having taken my shower the night before I proceed to condense my two suitcases into one (since Globus will only “Take care” of one.) We’re suppose to leave our suitcases outside our hotel room door when we go down to breakfast at 7am. 7:30am- I am dressed and everything is repacked. I go down stairs and join the group for breakfast but, thanks to my insanity, I am too nervous to eat anything so I have OJ and enjoy the heartburn for the next 30 minutes. Our guide, Margie, asks where my suitcase is and I said it’s in the hall. They mean it when they say leave it at 7am. 7:45am- I go and find Margie and ask what she’s heard about ... read more

Not so much planning required for this little trip compared to Australia. We felt that instead of going off to another country again, we should do some travelling around the lands of our birth. I think that we were trying to relive some of the 'good feeling' that we'd had while driving around in our Toyota Hi-ace Camper, so Phil bought a Toyota Corolla for the trip. Not quite the same eh, but at least we knew we had a better chance of getting there without breaking down... On Sunday morning, I woke up feeling really excited, it was going to be great to be off travelling again. We jumped in the car (I say jumped - it was more like a slow laboured daudle, because of tiredness) and off we went. The journey on the ... read more

The next morning we woke up early to get the days drive out of the way. We drove into Ambelside to get some Beatrix Potter related presents for people, it is a sweet little town much ruined by the tourist hoards that we saw queuing up for miles to get on on our way out. We felt very relieved for having missed them. That day we drove down to Stratford upon Avon in the Cotswolds, arriving in Warwick mid afternoon. The town was busy, things seem to heat up along with the weather at around 2-3pm in England and so tourists and locals were crawling all over the streets by the time we arrived. We parked a short way out of town in a field and walked over a bridge offering a splendid view of ... read more
