Miyavi @ Montreux Jazz festival

Today at Montreux Jazz festival, it's Japan day. The main star was Hiromi and her Trio project. Hiromi is a great pianist and plays with Anthony Jackson (base) and Simon Phillips (drum). I had already seen them in NYC at the Blue Note Jazz Club. It was really good. I would recommend anyone who has a chance to see them to go! But for me the main star was Miyavi. He was playing at 10pm and when I arrived at 6pm some diehard fans were already seating in front of the door. I took the chance to be at the festival to enjoy other show. The great thing in Montreux is that a lot of concerts are free. So I got to see Akikazu Nakamura Forest. I had just managed to find a spot under a giant umbrella and could listen to this kind of fusion between jazz and traditional Japanese music. I liked it but it is more the kind of music I would have in the background over a nice cup of tea. Just before leaving the festival at 1am I got to see part of Hotei Tomoyasu performance. You probably don't recognise the name but you know his music. He is the composer of Kill Bill main theme! And of the Japanese version of the theme song of Mission Impossible. I started to queue to get into the Rock Cave (Miyavi's concert venue) just before 9pm. And it was a good move. Apparently, not everyone could get in! I would have been so pissed to miss him. His performance was amazing. He communicates a lot with the public and made us participate a lot. He is a great showman. You can feel he gives a lot to the public. He played a lot of song from his album 'What's my name' (which is my favourite album of his). When I listened to his most recent album, I didn't like it so much. But some of the songs are really different when he plays them live. Those songs are very jumpy, dynamic and cheerful. I would enjoy them more next time I listen to them. I really had a lot of fun. It had been a long time since I sang, jumped, clapped, shouted and sweated that much! When he came back for the recall, he played another four songs. He really gave a lot even to such a small audience (about 300 persons). I put together some footage I took. I couldn't capture the best moments; I had to enjoy them live!



Aujourd'hui au Festival de jazz de Montreux le Japon est à l'honneur. La star principale était Hiromi et le Trio Project. Hiromi est une pianiste talentueuse et joue avec Anthony Jackson (à la basse) et Simon Phillips (à la batterie). Je les avaient déjà vus à NY au Blue Note Jazz Club. C'est vraiment chouette et je conseille vivement à n'importe qui en aillent l'occasion d'aller les voir ! Mais pour moi, l'artiste phare était Miyavi. Il jouait à 22h et quand je suis arrivée à 18h il y avait déjà des fans qui attendaient devant l'entrée de la salle ! De mon côté, j'ai profité d'être au festival pour voir d'autre artistes sur la scène en plein air. Le truc trop bien à Montreux c'est que beaucoup de concert sont gratuits. Donc, j'ai pu découvrir Akikazu Nakamura Forest. J'avais réussi à me trouver une place sous un parasol géant. J'ai donc pu apprécier la musique à l'abri de la pluie. C'est une sorte de fusion entre jazz et musique japonaise traditionnelle. J'ai bien aimé mais c'est plutôt le genre de musique que j'écouterai en arrière-plan en buvant une tasse de thé. Avant de reprendre le train à 1h du mat', j'ai pu voir la majorité du concert de Tomoyaso Hotei. Vous ne reconnaissez surement pas le nom mais vous connaissez sa musique. Il a composé le thème de Kill Bill ! et il et aussi l'auteur de la version japonaise du thème de Mission Impossible. Quelqu'un les a filmés pour vous :

J'ai commencé à faire la queue pour voir Miyavi un peu avant 9h. Et j'ai bien fait. Apparemment tout le monde n'a pas pu rentrer. J'aurais été vraiment trop dégouté si je n'avais pas pu le voir ! Sa performance était excellente. Il communique beaucoup avec le public et nous a fait participer souvent. C'est un très bon showman. On peut sentir qu'il donne de sa personne au public. Il a joué pas mal de chansons de son album ‘What's my name' (c'est mon préféré😉. Je n'étais pas trop fan de son dernier album…mais quand il joue les musiques en live, c'est totalement différent. Elles ont un certain dynamisme, elles sont entrainantes ! La prochaine fois que je vais les écouter, je pense que je les apprécierais bien plus. Je me suis vraiment régalée à ce concert. Ca faisait vraiment longtemps que je n'avais pas chanté, sauté, applaudi, crié et transpiré autant ! Quand il est revenu, pour le rappel, il a jouait quatre chansons de plus. Il s'est vraiment donné malgré le petit public (juste 300 personnes). J'ai fait un petit montage des quelques vidéos que j'ai prises. Je n'ai pas forcément pu capturer les meilleurs moments, j'étais trop occupé à les apprécier en live !
