This week end, the weather was splendid, except for the thunderstorm on Sunday evening. There are a lot of thunderstorms here. I have never seen that many! So I took advantage of the sunshine to enjoy Geneva. I went to the science museum where an outdoor exhibit was organized. The theme was 'What shines…' Most of the stands were for kids but some were also for adults. I went to mini conferences about the life and death of a star, about metallurgy, about the golden ratio in nature, and genome and money. The conferences were set under a tree. It was really nice.
My favorite stand was animated by PhD students looking into the interface between two surfaces. The experiment they had on the stand showed how to make a liquid mirror using gold particles in suspension in water. For that you just need to add to the gold particles and oily solution that contains sulfur. The sulfur will aggregate the gold at the interface between the oil and the water forming a reflecting surface. You can really see yourself in it! It was really cool! Speaking of mirrors, the second floor of the museum had a fun exhibit
on the properties of light and they used a lot of mirrors. I spend a little while in there playing with reflections.
When I got bored of science (it happens even to me...), I went to sit by the lake. The view from the north side is nice. There were a lot of things happening on the lake, many boats, swimmers, fishers. Towards the end of the afternoon bird of prey were circling above. I don't know what they are and I wonder is they are fishing.
It's a really nice exhibit. I will come back next year 😊
Je me demande s'ils pêchent…
C'est vraiment chouette comme manisfestation. Je reviendrais l'année prochaine!
