All of you know by now that I have the world's best travel buddy, Mr. Mike. I have a few people who are more than adequate substitutes. You know who you are. I will not mention names, so I don't hurt anyone's feelings. But several articles recently listed traits of bad travel partners. Since the last entry things have not been well with the Thompson family; in fact extremely unwell. A rogue Chicken Royale from McDonalds in the Markplatz Basel took out Katrina then spread to me, then Pat, then Jackson. Each of us has had a couple of days laid up in bed followed by a gradual recovery. Thankfully we haven't (yet) spread it to Vreni, Raymond, Björn or Laura. Today (Thursday) we are almost back to 100%. We might not visit another Golden Arches for the rest of this trip!! Our planned departure was yesterday but we now plan to leave Saturday morning before we overstay our welcome and Vreni & Raymond decide to throw us out on the street! We arrived in Basel late Thursday evening after a long flight from HK and a transfer flight from Frankfurt. We're staying for 6 nights in Witterswill ~10km outside the city with good friends Vreni & Raymond Kuenzli-Appel and their adorable children, Bjorn & Laura. The next day we reacquainted ourselves with the tram system and hit the streets of the old town with Catherine Loelinger, who worked with Pat & I when we first met at Sandoz Pharma in 1991 and was in no small part the reason why was Katrina was so named. After so many years, Basel seems a very familar and very comfortable place to walk around.
