Travelling Canucks
Fountain at Seville's Alcazar. At last, the Travelling Canucks are back home in Vancouver, Canada after a 4 week trip over Spring Break to the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco from March 14, 2007 to April 9, 2007. Now, it's time to reflect before it's time to return to work and school, get our visa bill in the mail, and our vacation becomes a distant memory.
Thankfully, over 2000 photographs were taken by the Travelling Canucks to enjoy. We have selected some of our favorites to share with our friends and over 1000 visitors to our travel blog to date!
As you have followed our journey to Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais in Portugal, Barcelona, Granada, Seville, Madrid, Segovia and Toledo in Spain, and, Marrakesh, Fes and Rabat in Morocco, you may have wondered, as many of our friends have, what was the highlight of our trip? As it is sometimes difficult to say, the Travelling Canucks' photographs that capture some of the visual highlights of our trip have been posted to share with you.
No lost luggage, no need for inoculations, no problems with trains, planes, and hotels. Not many not-to-be-missed sights were overlooked; anyways, if we saw everything, there wouldn't be any

We were thrilled with our hotel choices, which proved to meet the expectations set after reading Trip Advisor reviews. Our favorite hotels: Sofitel Lisboa for the warmth and comfort of the room, especially the comfy bedding, which definitely helped us get over the jet lag; the high tech room at the Petit Palace Santa Cruz in Seville had the most amazing bathrooms and our own personal laptop for blogging was great (no need to visit internet cafes or queue in the business centre); Riad Fes had a wonderful restaurant and public spaces that oozed with romance and luxury and offered an exceptional level of service, which was unsurpassed; and finally, the design at the Hotel de las Letras in Madrid, and the service of the front desk, especially when Papa Canuck forgot his credit card and the hotel assisted in securing the all important credit card as we were leaving for Morocco early the next morning.
Moroccan cuisine was aromatic and delicious. Tagines with chicken, lemon and olives, lamb with oranges and almonds, cold and hot moroccan salads, oranges with cinnamon and moroccan desserts were amazing. Portuguese and Spanish cuisine were also enjoyed. Iberian
Breathtaking Views
View of Lisbon, Portugal from Santa Justa Elevator built in 1892. In the distance, Castle Sao Jorge on top of hilltop in Alfama District. ham, hot and cold tapas, roasted piglet, roast baby kid, Portugese BBQ chicken, BBQ apple, pasteis of belem were all delicious.
Our favorite sights/experiences: Lisbon's historical sights, City of Barcelona and Antonio Gaudi's works, Granada's Alhambra, City of Seville and Seville's bullring museum, Marrakesh's Djemma El Fna and souks, Segovia's aquaduct, Toledo's cathedral, Madrid's royal palace, architecture, and Prado Museum.
Portugal and Spain: Tagging in Lisbon, litter in Toledo, and the cost of meals were shocking. We were disappointed at the number of tourist venues under renovation, perhaps in advance of the hoards of tourists expected over the summer months!
Morocco: Seeing child labour, plastic bags littering the countryside, and satellite dishes dominating the rooftops, even on top of make-shift shelters in shantytowns, was disappointing.
While exhaustion set in after travelling for 4 weeks, our trip flew by. We stayed in great places, visited interesting sights and met fascinating people, which is what we love about travelling. As expected, we had lots of great experiences and have great memories of our trip. Thank you for joining the Travelling Canucks on our journey! It's time to start planning the next adventure!
