Hola everyone!
Sorry it´s been awhile. So... What has been happening for the last few days?... *wracks her brain* Ok so as I said before we are eating very well! We have 3 men that are very good cooks (one of them is my Derek of course!!). Vincent and I made an awesome cake a couple days ago. He is vegan so we couldn´t use eggs, but because he is a Spanish native he knew a really neat trick. In place of eggs your can use Aloe Vera (there are tons of 'em growing around here). Yes! You heard me right!! So he showed me how to take one leaf (if you will) from the plant without hurting or killing the rest. You then fillet it like a fish, so you only have the jelly inside. Then you blend it and put it in the cake (or whatever other baking). It was such a good cake!! Carob vegan cake. Mmmmm.
We have been learning so much about the land of Spain from Vincent. We have been learning about the Carob tree (lots around of those around too) and how you can make very yummy tea (among other things) from
it, as well as just eat it off the tree. We have been learning about the herbs that grow around here and making tea and using them in our meals. We have been using lots of lettuce from the garden. Yesterday we finished the irrigation in that garden as well.
My finger is healing well. But I am getting many other cuts and blisters from building the earth ship. It´s very hard work. You put cardboard down on the inside of the tire and then fill it with dirt. And you fill and fill and fill until you think you can´t fill it anymore. And then! you hammer the dirt into all of the hidden spaces until when you press on all sides of the tire you´d swear it´s filled with cement. I told Derek there is no way we are building our house out of tires like this because it is so slow and very hard work. We agreed that maybe we will build a composting toilet out of tires but that´s it. Haha
I have gotten very sick after eating lots of wheat (I think I have been eating more since we´ve left Canada). So I´m
at the very end of my 2 day fast. It actually hasn´t been that bad. Derek has been keeping healthy even despite the fact of my terrible sore throat/head/chest cold (which is still lingering via a sore throat), which amazes me. He´s like super man or something.
Anyways! This farm has lots of animals. 3 cats, 2 dogs and 2 horses (ok maybe that´s not that much...). Anyways. There´s lots of animal stories. Oh my. It was so terrible. The day that we got to the farm I was walking through the property (it´s HUGE!) and I found a dead goose. It was really sad. Then when I came back to the house I found out it´s one of the farm's pets. I asked everyone if they´d seen Jenna (the goose) lately (just to make sure it wasn´t the wrong goose). No one had seen her for a couple of hours. I told them I had found her dead. I led everyone to the place and sure enough it was her. Pere was still in Barcelona so we took her and buried her beside the tree when the sun set. It was really sad. It looked like a big
dog must have bitten her.
The 2 kittens are very cute! They´re my favorite. Poncho and Trasto are the 2 dogs they have the bodies of Shepards but the legs of Beagles!! Haha they are so cute and funny. The dogs sleep outside in a little shed so they are always in the dirt. It´s very sad sometimes because they always have ticks on them (gross I know!) and when they get too many they start to get tired because of all the blood loss. Yuck. Yesterday Vincent, Derek and I cleaned Trasto of all the ticks we could find. 15 at least. ... Ew. But we killed them! Suckers!
I am very concerned about the momma cat. She is wild and acts very strangely. She doesn´t keep herself clean and she is very scrawny. She also has this constant drool hanging out of her mouth. She doesn´t like to be around anybody or any animals. Her breathing is all wonky and I don´t know. The first thing I thought of was rabies. So I researched it and it did sound like rabies. So I talked to Pere about it when he came to the farm yesterday. But he said the cat is normally like that and that she´s just drooling and breathing funny because she´s had a cold for a couple of months... I mean Pere should know his own cat better then me but I still find it not sitting right with my intuition. I told Vincent that at least we´ve put a bug in Pere´s ear and if he does see something that he thinks isn´t a cold maybe he will research rabies himself. I just hope the cat doesn´t pass it on to any other animals.. For now us WWOOFers are staying away from her to keep ourselves safe, just in case
The 2 horses are very nice (I cannot remember their names) one is white and the other is brown. We take them out to graze for most of the day. It´s too bad I don´t know how to ride them or else that would be really fun.
Hmmm what else? Oh Dad! Today when I was helping in the kitchen you know what song was stuck in my head?!? "All around the garden went the little mouse. One step. Two step. Back into it´s house!!" It made me really miss you. And all the little cousins too! The way they would anticipate the tickle and already scream before you even got to "..went the little mouse...". HEHE!
Ok, off to roll some chapati bread (spelt dough this time).
Love you all 😊
