So I have 5 min so this is quick... buttt up north was amazing, of course, and I ended up going broke with two days left.. oops! Yeah, I learnt my lesson and brought my debit card with me this trip. I got here yesterday earlllly morning and spend the day with Christie in Valencia, it was pretty cool - we went to this aquarium and ate dinner underground and watched the little fishies swim around even though some of them were gross and looks like their eyes were gauged out - ew. Then last night we went out with all of the alicante program kids, they def know how to have fun in Espagna, Italia should watch out! Today we went to the beach and then saw this castle way up in the mountains with ... read more

Hi everyone! It has been a few days since I have posted. I am still enjoying my stay here in Spain. It is 1:15am Saturday morning here in Toledo. Darlene, Karen, and I are leaving at 6am on the bus for Madrid, to catch the train there for Alicante and the beach! Alicante is about a 4 hour train ride from Madrid and is located on the Mediterranean Sea. The roundtrip train tickets cost about 79 US dollars (61 Euros). The hotel is about 18 euros per night for a triple room (3 single beds). We will return to Madrid on Monday evening to take in the Flamenco dancers and dinner. Darlene and Karen fly out on Tuesday morning and Deanna, Mary and I fly out on Wednesday morning. I leave at 4:30am CST and will ... read more

Well to sum up my weekend, Kristen, Ethan, and I went to Denia, a little beach town between Alicante and Valencia to spend the entire time at the beach, building sandcastles, finding sea shells, and swimming (which was very cold), we also stayed at a very nice hotel…yay for Marriott! And went to the spa and pool where we also got plenty of sun, to say the least we are all a little darker (our theology professor even noticed our glow) and a little sad we have to go to class for a few more weeks (3 to be exact!). Fortunately, this Thursday my classes are cancelled so I might take another trip to the beach, this time probably to the southern part of Spain. Well, I hope everyone is doing great and that I can ... read more

01-12-06 I am on a bus to alicante right now and there are screaming children behind me that I think might drive me mad, especially since there are still at least 2 hours to. The view outside is amazing now that we have left the city and there are mostly fields surrounding us. Madrid was amazing but I am excited to see a new place. The hostel used to be an Arabic palace of some sort. It was extremely colorful and had such intricate designs everywhere. There was a bar area to your left when you walk in and then down stairs there was a club area. The downstairs looked like a cave but it was so chill, there were computers, tons of small tables with cushion seats, a stage, a bar and when you move ... read more

January 8th, 2006 Well this is day one of my journey, although if you really think about it this journey really began back when I first started to dream of doing something like this. I am now sitting on a plane staring out the window looking at my last ground shot of the United States. I have been filled with emotions of excitement, adventure, fear of the unknown. All in all looking at everything now I am ungodly nervous, and anxious but glad that I took this chance. To say I am traveling with class would be an understatement. I got lucky and my first 8hours in the air got booked for first class, thanks to my dad of course. But when he said first class I never would have imagined he meant that my seat ... read more

Hello Reader. Sunday night was quite uneventful. I picked up some milk and cereal, juice, and resisted a pint of Ben & Jerry's. I went to the hostel, popped in Kill Bill Volume Two and ate Coco Crispies until I couldn't eat anymore. It was a present to myself. I woke up late on Monday, around eleven thirty. I took a shower, folded my clothes, packed my bag, and went to the train station to reserve my ticket to Alicante. The line was long and when I finally got to the window, the man told me how much it would be. As I reached into my pocket to find the exact change, I dropped a couple of coins and bent down to pick them up. When I stood back up, the agent was mumbling something about ... read more

Today we started our new classes. This comes as good news because this means that we don´t have to sit through our intensive Spanish class for three hours every day. I was a little sad because my teacher for the first few weeks, Mar, is no longer my instructer. Instead, I have this lady Rosa who is a little crazy, but still a good teacher I think. So, I still have my two Spanish classes with Rosa, and now I have Spanish Cinema and The Spanish Civil War. It is really cool to have classes about subjects other than grammer and other hard stuff. At about 10:30 we were all lead outside because there was going to be an amazing full solar eclipse. We were even given special glasses to watch it through. With much anticipation, ... read more

Seeing as how it is the last day of September, I thought I would upade my blog. I guess I start with last Saturday... After a rough Friday night, (fun rough, not bad rough) I had to wake up super early to catch my bus with the rest of my friends for a planned day trip of the provence of Alicante. Still under the influence, we drove about an hour to this cave up in the middle of some mountain. Once we were inside it was actually pretty cool. I didn´t catch everyting the guide was saying but I did hear that this cave was old. It was huge as well. They played classical music throughout the tour and the sound was awesome. We hung out in the cool damp cave for about an hour, which ... read more

Yes, I finally got some of my pictures uploaded. I hope you all enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them (some of them are from El Barrio). Tuesday nights here in Alicante are Guacamole Nights. This bar that a lot of us hang out at, Austins, has amazing guac every Tuesday. The reason this rocks so much is because the guac is a little spicy. You may think that is not a big deal, but seriously, it is probably the spiciest thing in all of Alicante. I don´t know if it is a regional thing or a country thing, but I have had the hardest time finding spicy food here. It is like Spaniards don´t know what it is. Maybe they do but they don´t appreciate it. But anyways, this Tuesday night was great. ... read more

I just got out of another three hour class which was a little hard to get through. I have not been sleeping well the past two nights. I think my small bed might be getting the best of me. All of us are trying to figure out what we are going to do for our fall break. Some kids are going to Moracco and some are going to Rome. I was thinking with some kids that we would go to Athens, but that idea is turning out to be really expensive. If anyone has great ideas please let me know. Later today I am going to walk around Alicante with my camera and take some pictures of my local hangouts so I can post them here. I want to try and walk up to the castle ... read more
