Started walking at about 7.30.....Very cold and windy....Feeling very tired and cold and a bit miserable. We stopped at about 10am and had some food and a coffee....felt heaps better after that...I walked all day with my raincoat on.......Normally I wouldn't be able to walk with my jacket and raincoat as I would be far to hot, but today was different, it just seemed to be extra cold.
We stopped on a bench in the middle of a town and pulled out yesterdays bread cheese and meat and made a meal....Ole walked passed, so sat on the bench and ate his lunch with us....His bread didn't look like yesterdays....Oh well we are getting use to eating yesterday everything. ....He was waiting for his sister-in-law to catch up...she is a slower walker than him. He was telling us how his wife walked the camino last year, but a month earlier. Apparently she had to walk through a lot of snow and was a lot colder. He had a new appreciation for her camino. He also said that it was 4oc this morning when we started. We were a bit dissapointed because we both thought that is was much colder than that....It
was one of our coldest day of walking.
We arrived at Azofras feelng like we had enough walking for the day, but wasn't that keen on what we saw, the town just didnt look very promising of a nice albergue but not really wanting to do another 5km to the next village. Nearly on the way out and to our right was a quite new and impressive looking place to stay. Went in very cold and tired to be greeted by a quite new and big albergue. We left our Boots at the front door and walked in. Was taken to our rooms on the 1st floor and shown to a room with 2 single beds in it......not only had we thought we had had hit the jackpot but the tiles on the floor were heated....the luxuries we were given. This is where I managed to do my first travel blog. 2 out of the 4 computer's were working. The one where my money run out and I didn't save it so had to rewrite.....learnt my leason there....save save save
No I haven't learnt that message of save.... have just spent 1/2 hr writing heaps and have just
lost it...so here I go with the repeat.......
We showered made our beds.....spread our sleeping bags out on the bed, enjoyed the heated tiles on our feet after such a cold day, then decided to go and find some food.
As I have touched on before, the shops open at about 9am but all close at around 1pm. There will be people everywhere in the plaza's then all of a sudden the doors will be shut the metal gates closed up in front of the shops and everyone dissapears. When we hit town the places are normally very quiet. The kids schools close for a couple of hrs during the day and finish at about 5.30....then all the shops open and the plaza's come back to life. People and kids everywhere. Very sociable people....doesnt matter how cold it is or how young the babies are every one is out and about till about 10.30pm then everthing closes again.
So pilgrims tend to go and have their pilgrim meal at about 7pm and the resturants will be opened for us. They all know that we have to be back at the albergues by 9.30 as lights are out
at 10pm. The lights stay off untill 6am before they are allowed to be turned back on. This rule is respected by all pilgrim on the walk untill the last 100km ....but that is another story I will tell when we get there.
Well we found a resturant just around the corner filled with locals having a drink, had a pilgrim meal which has one of the bests....went home to our heated tiles and went to bed
