I just got back from Extremadura!! The weekend was very busy. The group left at 8am (VERY EARLY for me!) and we took a bus to Salamanca, which is a major university city in Spain. The hotel was really nice, all of the rooms had computers (although ours didn't work), and was right on the Plaza Mayor, which is the center of the city. The only bad thing was that the bathroom door was made of glass and there was a window of clear glass in the middle so that you could see directly into the toilet/shower...that was a little awkward considering that there were 4 people sharing a room! We spent most of the day touring the city. We saw a castle, the university of Salamanca, an Arte Deco Museum, the outside of 2 cathedrals, and a monastery. We got a free 7 course lunch, although we didn't realize that we would get so many courses, they just kept coming and coming. I was stuffed! The next day we woke up bright and early to drive to Yaste, where we saw the monastery where King Carlos V went to die...it was a very plain, unexciting building and kind of a

waste of time in my opinion considering we went out of our way to get there. Next we ate lunch and drove to Caceres! We didn't get there until 8:30pm, upon which we took a much needed 1 hour nap, and then we took a little tour of the city. It was really old/quaint because everything modern (since the 1400s i think) has been built outside of the old city walls. I didn't see much because it was dark, but the city seemed very beautiful. I wish we would've had more time to see it. The next morning we left bright and early again for Trujillo. We took a walking tour of the city, saw an old muralla that was meant to protect the city (really cool!) and then had 3 hours free to wander around. We were all exhausted and almost nothing was open because Spain pretty much shuts down on Sundays, so we basically just sat around and ate for a few hours. The weekend was fun overall, although very tiring. Now I'm back to Madrid, where I now have wireless in my room! I am so excited, hence why I am starting a blog.

More updates to come!

I took a lot of pictures and now I don't remember what half of the building are. Woops!

Apparently Spaniards have an interesting sense of humor...when they renovated this cathedral, they decided it would be funny to carve an astronaut into the facade. There was also a dragon eating an ice cream cone. bizarre!

It is amazing how untainted the old city is-there are no bright lights or stores, just really awesome architecture!

Jealousy
Your trip looks like it was very nice. I am jealous. Me, I got to go to stinking Reading PA last week and watch a soccer game in the rain.
