Madrid Skyline
This was my view when I was in Casa de Campo waiting for the bus. Why do I have the worst luck in the world when I’m in Spain??? I’ll explain that sentence later. Because today actually until around midnight was so great! I went school like normal, but around 3:30 I met with Antonio at Casa de Campo to go to my interview with the zoo. I dressed nice, wearing a skirt and heels. The metro ride over to casa de campo was much longer than I had anticipated, but I was still on time. It was weird, part of the ride, the metro was actually outside; not in a tunnel! The weather was perfect for me to just sit outside while I waited on Antonio - most people would think it was hot though, but there was wind; perfect for me. So we caught a bus from the metro stop to the zoo. We found the administrative offices, but Pablo - the vet, wasn’t there, so we had to call a few places to find out where he was. Finally we found out he was in the aquarium…so we walked through the zoo (remember I was wearing heels and professional clothes!) but it was really pretty - the zoo is really nice. It’d
Plaza de Espana
This is what I saw after I left the zoo, right before I got on the Metro. (near the place where I saw the guy peeing!) say it’s competitive with Fort Worth Zoo…but they have a really nice aquarium with sharks and dolphins and pandas. We finally found Pablo and he’s really nice! He speaks English, so that’s nice to know, but of course he only speaks Spanish to me - which is good because I really do want to get better, but for those times when I don’t know what the heck he’s talking about, it will be nice to be able to hear it in English! So he took me to his office and he went over my resume. He told me a little about the place and the rules and how my schedule is going to work. It’s really flexible, so that’s good if I want to go on any trips - I can have a long weekend, or go during the week. He gave me a tour of the aquarium and explained the different machines, quarantines, and tanks that they have - but now I’m a little confused. I’m not sure if I’m just working for the zoo or just the aquarium, but it doesn’t seem like I’ll be seeing much veterinary work…so I’m kinda bummed, but maybe I will - who
Cafe Madrid
Jasmine and me at Cafe Madrid knows, either way, it’s a good experience. So, during this tour, he had me climb up this tank with really steep steps, in my pencil skirt and heels! It was interesting! Ha. I definitely felt very over dressed but that’s what Antonio told me to wear…but it really wasn’t an interview…it was more like an orientation. After the tour, he just told me he’d see me on Monday, and he’ll give me some shirts and pants to wear. So I’m excited! Oh, and I think I get to go SCUBA diving in the tank! That should be an experience!
After the zoo, I just caught the bus, but I didn’t know where there was a stop near a Metro - probably most of them since the Metro goes everywhere, but still. So finally I recognized the name of an area, Plaza de Espana, so I got off and walked to the Metro - I saw a guy peeing on the side of the building! In the middle of the day! It was so gross…so I don’t think I’ll come back to this neighborhood again unless I have to catch a bus to go somewhere like Toledo. So I just took the Metro back to my house and MY ATM CARD AND MY SCUBA C-CARD ARRIVED!!!!! I was so happy, and Charo was so cute! She kept hugging and kissing me and telling me how happy she was and how nervous she has been the last couple of days. Then I took a little nap before I left to meet Jasmine and Virginia near Sol.
Around 9pm I took the Metro to Sol and went to Café Madrid because on Wednesdays and Thursdays they have Language Exchanges Metting Night where people go to meet other people and practice speaking in other languages. I beat Jasmine there so I just sat at a table alone. This guy came up, Alvaco, and asked if I was there for the language exchange. So we talked for awhile. He was really nice. Then Jasmine and Virginia met me there. I had some coffee and met a few people. We stayed there for a few hours, then we went walking around Sol a little. But by then my legs and feet hurt, so we went home.
When I got home, I thought I better activate the card I got in the mail, but when
I called, the guy told me that the card was already marked as stolen! UGH. This is where the bad luck comes into play. So after all this hassle of getting the dumb letter, my card isn’t even good! I don’t know what I’m going to do about money. I talked to Ray and my mom and they’re going to send my debit card tomorrow…but that means ANOTHER week with no money! So anyways…that’s where I’m at right now…and now I just need some sleep because I’m really ticked off right now…upset….on the verge of tears…stressed…nervous…and this day STARTED so well…why couldn’t I just have 1 day that was really nice…nope…not for Chloe’ in Spain. Maybe Barcelona will be great…but with no money, I’m not sure what all I can do.
