So, I´m not really sure what this is, but it was pretty. And they have those shade cloths all around Puerto de Sol, it´s makes the weather perfect!
Today, when I woke up, my throat felt a lot better, but my head and nose are still hurting. I’m coughing a lot, but at least I feel better than yesterday. I had a hard time staying awake in class today - I think it was the Nyquil I took last night. Anyway, when class was over, I used the internet for awhile, getting caught up on everything. Prathiba and I booked our hostels that we will be staying in next weekend in Barcelona, so now all I have to do is reserve my train ticket! I’m really excited about next weekend! Then, Prathiba and I just walked around the Sol area for a little while. We then accidentally made it to Gran Via. Gran Via is popular road here, especially for tourists. It’s ok, but I think it’s more for the people that like to go to bars and things like that. For me, I prefer areas with outdoor restaurants surrounded by gorgeous buildings. That’s one of the things that really surprised me about Madrid. EVERY SINGLE building is beautiful! I can’t believe it. The architecture in this city is incredible! I knew there was some, but I didn’t

There are a lot of these...
realize it was ALL.
Because I wasn’t going to eat dinner until around 9:30, Prathiba and I decided to go to this ice cream shop, Cupido. I had a cone with tiramisu, it was very good! Then, we just went back to her apartment, and I took a nap - er…tried to take a nap. Finally it was dinner time…I was so hungry! So I met up with Jasmine and we went out looking for some “cheap” food at a cute restaurant. That was much harder than I thought it was going to be. All the restaurants around Plaza Mayor are really expensive. Finally we found this little Italian restaurant with outdoor seating and reasonable prices. They had a special where you can order a first course, main course, drink (wine, beer, water, or soda), and either a dessert or coffee. So I ordered baked eggplant - which was delicious, veal and papas fritas (french fries) - the veal was very tough and over cooked and bland…I miss Dad’s steak!, and then for dessert I had basically flan. Also, I had my first glass of wine today. It was actually pretty good. It was just the “house white wine”.

So, these people are all around the tourist parts of Sol. There are many variations, but basically, they sit still, and if you didn´t know about them, you´d think they´re fake. So everytime someone drops a coin in their jar, they move a little.

Virginia, the girl we hung out with yesterday, met us at the restaurant. We all left and decided to just walk around and look at stuff. We found this painter and he made these paintings out of acrylic and enamel. They were really cool…and beautiful. If I find some cheaper, I think I’ll buy some.
One of the friends that Jasmine met at school was having a party in her apartment tonight, so we decided to go…only we WALKED! It was really far, and unfortunately I was wearing a skirt, so my legs hurt so bad. It was around 12:45 when we finally got there. Then only one person at the party introduced themselves to us, so we didn’t really meet anyone. So after about 15 min. we just left, plus the Metro closes at 1:30am so we had to leave if we wanted to take the Metro back home. I was in pretty bad mood by now. All the walking for nothing…and my feet and my legs hurt so bad. So when I got home, I just took a shower, called Ray (who was having a little mini party of his own at his house J) and

then just went to bed.
All in all, a pretty boring day…except I did have that one good meal!...and good ice cream!

So, ham is really popular here. Apparently because the weather is so dry, it´s perfect for ham to age maybe? I´m not really sure, but it is good. And in a lot of the bars, they´ll just have multiple hams hangning from the ceiling! it´s very strange to be eating dinner surrounded by raw meat...but then again...not so strange given my experiences at A&M

So these Africans are everywhere. They illegally sell items on the streets. Whenever they see the police pass by, they scoop up their things in the canvas bag and run. It´s interesting.
