Buenos dias! 'Tis Liz again, recouperated from my various physical/mental ailments of last week. I've been celebrating by poisoning my still-fragile body with cheap, cheap Spanish wine. Seriously, it's about $1 Canadian a bottle. Yes, we're that classy. We've arrived and settled in our last stop in the tour of Spain, Bar-thay-lona. You must say it with an exaggerated, flamboyant lisp, or a host of untold misfortunes will befall you... or something. Anyway, the city is beautiful, physically and otherwise. Despite the fact that neither Pia or I have a clue about the Catalan language (we're so ignorant... we thought they all just spoke Spanish until we stepped off the metro and couldn't read the street signs) almost everyone we've talked to has been incredibly accomodating and friendly. They all pretty much seem to speak Spanish ... read more

Our hostel in Barcelona left something to be desired. The girl at the front desk told us there was absolutely NO alcohol allowed and later we saw her drinking wine out of the bottle on the job. We ended up in a room with four boys who, from what we could tell, slept 24 hours a day so our windowless room smelled like dirty boys feet. Also the hostel advertised that it was located 100 meters from the beach, we walked for an hour before we found it. But eventually we did find it and thats when Barcelona started to get better for us. Our roommate from London, Ksenya (the K is silent) met us and will be traveling with us for the next week. On Thursday we walked along the main pedestrian mall La Rambla, ... read more

We made friends in Valencia! It was the first place that we couldn´t find a cheap hotel so we had to go for a hostel. We checked into Indigo youth hostel and while chatting with the girl at the front desk we came to find out that she and her husband had opened it just 6 days before! They have traveled all over and decided they wanted to open a place for backpackers that was clean and friendly and they succeeded! It was the most comfortable atmosphere of any hostel we´ve stayed in yet. We also made a friend in our room who was there visiting someone who goes to school in the city. So we got guided tours from a semi-local. We went to a small bar that we never would have found on our ... read more

Hi All- We spent this weekend on our first out of the UK trip, Barcelona! Since I studied in Spain 3 years back, I've been dying to go back. So, since it was my birthday and I got to pick the destination, we went and had a great time. We lucked out and stayed in a really great hostel (the Sun and Moon) right on Las Ramblas, which is kind of the main drag there, full of shops, street performers, etc. We ate tapas and paella, drank Sangria, went down to the beach, and went to see some awesome sights. I think my favorite was Guell Park, which is a park dedicated to Gaudi and is said to be Gaudi's architexture in garden form. It was beautiful and we took tons of pictures. (Kia-it reminded me ... read more

A French student in Barcelona I'm a little French boy who once went to Barcelona to enjoy the city and study there...and from an experience to another, it turned out to be a very good experience and I decided to share it worldwide...or at least to share the good things to do in Barcelona. Because in that great city there are things and traps to be avoided and good things to be known. As a young student arriving in Barcelona, I had to find accomodation by myself and at first when you don't know anything it's quite hard... The first thing to do is look over the internet. I found a provisional and welcoming shared flat for my two first weeks here. It was near la Sagrada Familia and it was just perfect as the owner ... read more

Pour ce qui est de moi, j'ai fini le demo de stellar race grace au travail de tout le membre de l'équipe flash on est ariver a un résultat quand même assez impressionant! After leaving Madrid by bus, we got into Barcelona on the 10th after meeting some travelers from Israel. We had very interesting conversation, which helped the 7 hour bus ride pass quickly. After arriving in Barcelona early evening, we got a hostel right off of Las Ramblas (the famous 1 km street that runs to the sea) and walked outside for the first time without our winter coats! It was harder to understand signs though because they speak Catalán, a mix of Spanish and French. We ended up grabbing a cheap supper at a grocery store consisting of a baguette (wheat and warm!) and cheese and ate at a nearby cafe. The next day we set out on a tourist bus that took us all over the city, allowing us to get on and off ... read more
