Our first attempt at leaving Bordeaux at 6 in the morning failed miserably when the least patient french train conductor in the world told us that we needed a reservation to board, and gave us zero time to attempt to make it on. Breifly going into a blind rage we gathered ourselves and realized that we still had about 3 hours back at our hotel until checkout so we staggered our way in the direction of our hotel and powered down till the next possible train at noon. Luckily for us on our voyage from the french city of Bayonne to upper Spain we managed to land seats in 1st class and enjoyed the short 45 minute luxery. Upon entering the gem of Europe, Irun, Spain, we again came to a wall this time in the form of a 4 foot tall, 315 pound, spanish megaphone who denied us entry onto our train to Barcelona. In dire need of a stress ball, and hoplessly restricted with options, we luckily managed to meet 3 kiwis in a similar perdicament. We then frantically cabbed our way in the direction of a little town called San Sebastion in hope of open seats on an express bus to Barcelona. Fortunately for us we were able to land seats on the bus with an estimated arrival time of 7am, but it was not before eating a 3 course meal and drinking San Sebastion dry of the local wine. When we finally arrived the next morning, exhausted, and made our way to the hostel and were greeted with the cleanest building we had seen thus far on our journey and slept while Kyle gained a perspective on how big Barcelona is by getting lost for 2 hours. When we started our real first part of the day we met our 2 Danish roomates and learned a bit about what Barcelona had to offer for attractions. With much anticipation Kyle and I enjoyed our first swim in the Mediterainean, while Tenille, without a bathing suit enjoyed the view of local half naked women. Sometime in the day Kyle managed to contract a terminal illness leaving him bed ridden while Tenille and I prepared for an all nighter with our new Danish friends. Our other roomates were a couple shady hustlers from the UK and left Kyle with an eventful evening to come back at the hostel. After we left some tweenager attempted to drug kyle in hope of sedating him so she could have her way with one of the UK boys. Being none the wiser he obviously declined the offer but was left with a first class, top bunk ticket to an X-rated show. As we struggled our way through the most man filled club in Barcelona we were on our way back in the direction of our hostel while Kyle enjoyed yet another unusual event. The other UK boy returned wasted, drank the rest of our vodka, and attempting to hit the toilet started peeing all over the bathroom door and passed out in the shower fully clothed. After an awkward breakfast we resolved the problems at hand and were on route to see Gaudi´s amazing sculptures and architecture. Highly recommend checking it out. That night we made our first home cooked family meal in the hostel´s kitchen and spent the rest of the night down on the lively beaches of Barcelona enjoying 1 euro beers. Also managed to witness a pìck pocket and an overdose but stuff like that seems pretty standard around here. Definately could have spent a few more days here but in order to see the rest of Europe our 1 pm train to Nice pushes us deeper into our adventure. Swaaag
