Well...in a whirl wind of 3 days and 2 nights we flew through Barcelona...We arrived to some chilly, rainy weather only to realize that I had forgotten to write down the number of the hostel...so after trekking around in the rain and asking different shop owners we finally found it...People in Barcelona are really friendly...especially the cab drivers...more on that later...we got changed and walked to Sagrada Familia one of Gaudi's masterpieces...on the way we stopped in for a sandwich...the church was closed but from the outside it was one of the coolest things I have ever seen...ever...Gaudi died before it was finished and so it's supposed to be completed by 2020...after the church we returned to our hostel and got ready to go out...we met a bunch of cool people and celebrated Elizabeth's birthday at midnight...On the way home from the club...I was really hungry so the cab driver was nice enough to take us to a kebob shop on Las Ramblas...he even stopped the meter for me when I went in...and then listened to my butchered Spanish for the rest of the car ride home...The next day we went to an all you can eat buffet for like 10
euro...and let me tell you...it was sooo nice to have a salad...like a true tourist we hoped on the big red city bus and went to see the sites...We went back La Sagrada Familia which is a whole new experience in the day time...Gaudi was a genius...after the church we went to this garden that was also designed by Gaudi...A family commissioned him to create it for them...must be nice to be able to have that kind of cash...this garden is something that belongs in fairy tales...they filmed the finale of America's Next Top Model at the place...(for all those ANTM fans...the one with Caridee and Melrose)...Then we headed back to the hostel to go meet the Miller Family...They are renting a beautiful flat near the water and it was soooo good to see them...They greeted us with Champagne to toast Elizabeth's birthday and then we headed to this nice restaurant near Las Ramblas...The food was soooo good and it was great to have a good meal...Kebobs are NOT getting old but it's good to have a change up every once in a while...After dinner we had some drinks at the Chateau de Miller and then headed out to a bar on Las Ramblas...A street vendor gave me this great glow in the dark ring...This is where it gets really interesting...Elizabeth and I wake up to Mr. Miller telling us it's 9:30 and our flight is at 11:30...we run outside and hail a cab to our hostel...pack up our stuff as fast as we can and run down the street with out 75 pounds of luggage...at this point we were positive that we were going to miss our flight...luckily our cab driver understood the gravity of the situation and got us to the airport really quickly...we ended up making our flight but if you can imagine the two of us sprinting through the airport and dodging people left and right...you can get the picture...now we are back in Lisbon for some business this next week...we have an ensuite shower...and I have never been happier to take a shower...I know that seems to be a common theme...but you learn to appreciate the little things while traveling...like air conditioning and complimentary robes....hope everyone is well!!! We miss you all!!! Love, K and E
