Friday August 10,2018 Our first morning at the Villa and it was amazing! We got up and had breakfast and started our day. The three of us got into our rental car and drove towards Carrefour - a big grocery store. We bought a lot of groceries for awhile and also because my cousin Henry and his family were driving to the villa for two days, from their holiday in a northern town called: Gijon . They will arrive tomorrow afternoon and It will be amazing and wonderful to spend time with Henry,Rachel,Ella and Felix! We relaxed and rested till 5pm and then Sally and I walked down to the lake and had about a 30 minute swim which was fabulous! Around 7:30/8:00 pm, Jay began to make dinner for the three of us which ... read more

Monday August 13,2018 Today we went grocery shopping in Zamora. We all came home and rested and relaxed on the terrace of the villa. Then later Sally and I swam in the lake and went a little further to swim across to the other side of the lake. We rested and chilled until it was time for supper. The three of us had a lovely supper and dessert and then played a few rounds of boggle which was fun! I moved to a different room and organized my friend John’s room at the villa. Time to go to bed! GoodNight!... read more

Sunday August 12,2018 This morning, everyone slept in and awoke late and then we had breakfast. After breakfast,I went in search for the regular Banana Grams game but alas, it is not at the villa. I decided to clean and organize the big chest of drawers. Games, art, writing, maps and other things. Then after lunch I relaxed on a lounge chair, read, wrote and had a siesta. We all had a late lunch and just chilled afterwards until the strong wind carried one of the outdoor Umbrellas and knocked it down. Luckily-no one was hurt but it was a bit scary. After that, we just chilled and relaxed the rest of the day. Later that evening-Sally,Jay,Henry,Rachel,Ella,Felix and I went to Marcelino Pateco’s house for Tapas. He had made croquetes, potato frittata, ham, courgette sandwiches, shrimp ... read more

Buenas Noches – The rain did not stop. After our lovely day in Leon we found ourselves stir crazy sitting inside Suzy listening to the endless rain thundering down on the rooftops. All we were missing was the thunder and lightening. The storm has certainly hit us and the winds had picked up. We found ourselves watching our new neighbours arriving on site. Some in caravans and braving the weather trying to hitch up and find a spot. Others in panel vans travelling in groups and setting up camp beneath umberellas which were about as good as a chocolate fireguard. One motorhomer rode round five times searching out the perfect spot and in the end we thought he had given up and abandoned the search only to find him parked up just at the entrance gates. ... read more

Thursday August 13, 2015 "Buenos Dias! Como esta usted? " Good Morning? How are you? Welcome Back! A bit of broken Spanish here and there. Today was windy and a bit chilly! Sally got up earlier and I woke up about 9:30 am . It was so cold that we put a bath robe on and ate some breakfast. By 10:15 am , everyone else was awake and we just talked while others started their breakfast. After everybody had eaten their breakfast, I started writing my blog and Sally began a Felt Workshop for the kids and myself. Ella made a beautiful blue fish and I am making a friend for Bruno. About a half an hour later, a few of us walked down to the lake which is very low at this time. The kids ... read more

Yesterday we left Tordesillas at 11.45 to drive up to the border country between Castile and Galicia. Our journey took two and three quarter hours and the distance was 186 kilometres. As we journeyed northwards and westwards we could see the snow-capped peaks of the border country getting nearer and nearer. For most of the journey we were following the “Camino de Santiago” the route which devout pilgrims walk to Santiago de Campostela (all the way from France). Our destination, a campsite on the banks of the Lago de Sanabria, on a part of Castile which juts westward like a land-locked peninsula, with Galicia to the north and west, just about twenty kilometres away, and Portugal the same distance to the south. It is a beautiful location, but as night drew in and the sun began ... read more

This might even more or less kick start the blog season {likely going backwards anyway - seeing as how I have 3 1/2 hrs on this Alvia "fast" train from Zamora to Santiago de Compostela with nothing much else to do - other than listen to some Miles Davis "Tutu" (the difficult Warners period Miles fans) on my Ipod. The train is not that fast - would be on Madrid fast train sections but out here in the scrub it is more like 80kmh average due to the track no doubt. It runs all the way from Zamora. It was a one night town - I will have to be doing more or this as my pace has been too relaxed. However getting into Santiago at 8.30pm I have booked 4 nights there, in 2 separate ... read more

Already in Australia we were curious about the Gothic Mudejar castle in Coca. It created a big of a problem because we had to take the long way around between two overnight stays. But we were keen to see it so what is a man to do? Through country roads and gorgious villages there it was. AMZING. In the middle of absolutely nowhere, there was this master piece of Militairry design that is it title. There is a huge moat around it. It was started by Alonso Fonseca in 1453. Made of limestone brick and slate. Trekking through very narrow spiral stair cases with hugh steps {they must have been giants} you arriven at various capels and rooms, displaying tools, arms and furniture. One desk was from thr 17th century. That was certainly worth the extra ... read more
