Hey All, This is more of a compliation of random things from this week. This week i had my first week of school. BOOOO. but it wasn´t that horrible, it´s two classes= grammar and transatlantic literature. fun...all in spanish and such. but my teachers are nice so it´s somewhat bearable. The weather has been amazing. so i´ve been walking around a lot. i got a new tattoo here haha. it´s pretty cool except the guy almost spelled it wrong haha. it reads "be thou my vision" which is the name of a hymn that i´ve like for the longest time and it´s irish. the artist forgot the h in "thou". I think that i almost had a heart attack haha. Especially since he barely spoke english but anyways. I think it´s pretty cool looking and pretty. ... read more

hay mucho tiempo desde mi ultimo apunta. en sabado no hice mucho. Fui al mercado con mi madre y su hermana y sobrina y despues fuimos al titerimundo y compramos Churros. Me gustan muchos churros. No me ... read more

My first week.... Hi all, sorry it took like a million years to write anything...kinda busy.... i actually am in an internet cafe here, which doesn´t have coffee, im blonde, i thought it would,.. :) Anyways i thought that i could highlight some of the stuff that has happened so far, like the bull fight and meeting my family and such. I flew into Madrid, the capital, haha for those of you who didn´t know , and i found my way to a hostel there, called Musas, which was awesome. Arriving in madrid i was overwhelmed by all the change of language and thank goodness there was a man that helped me the whole way that was from amsterdam and understood german english and french. So the time difference is very profound in the mornings. I woke up at 5 am today. I layed there for an hour trying to go back to sleep but it was impossible. I got up at six. For some reason when I was straightening my hair this morning half way through the straightener just turned off. I don't know why it just did. But I went to school early so that I could get some cafe con leche before class. Surprisingly my spanish grammar class is really cool. And suuuuppppeerr helpful. I like the transatlantic dialouges but the teacher isn't as good. After class Amanda y yo went exploring the city. Its impossible to get lost here! You can always see the aqueduct. The fast food here is nothing like the fast food in america ... read more

Day 13 (Sunday, April 5th, 2009) Initially, our plan for the day was to leave Toledo and head north towards Segovia, first stopping at La Granja Palace. However, the night before we decided to also add in a visit to the Valley of the Fallen, as it was within close driving distance to both Segovia and La Granja. Our first stop of the three was the Valley of the Fallen (Valle de los Caídos), which is a monument located in the city of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. The immense monument was built per the direction of dictator Francisco Franco as a memorial for the victims of Spain's Civil War, which occurred from 1936-1939. The building is comprised of a basilica (largest in the world), an underground crypt (houses the remains of 40,000 victims) and ... read more

I've made it through my first week of classes. The good news is that I got an A in my intensive course (a good way to contribute to my GPA after only three weeks!). The bad news is that as of yesterday I changed two of my classes and so I have to make up the work. When I was selecting my study abroad classes at GW, I had wanted to take History of Spain to fulfill my non-US history requirement for my international affairs major, but my academic advisor told me that it wouldn't fulfill it. So, I listened to her and registered for History of Europe in the 20th Century hoping to learn about things I've already studied but from a Spanish point of view and hopefully learn a lot more about the formation ... read more

Drinking a café con leche at a café with my book could easily be my favorite thing to do in the entire world. I would be content doing this the rest of my life… Now to find a profession where I could sit in cafés, talk to friends, read good books, learn about the world, and help others while doing it… hmmmm, I’ll come back to that in a couple years. Midterms are next week, but they should hopefully be pretty easy. I’m more worried about being able to communicate to people efficiently and fluidly… easier said than done. Brittany and I met a guy who is studying here from Chicago, and all of our friends go to his apartment to play card games and hang out. He will not speak to us in English because ... read more

I weighed up my options...On the one hand I could take almost an entire week off from school teaching and get to see some of the most iconic places in Spain, on the other hand, there would be fifty shouting screaming squabbling english and spanish schoolchildren following me round these wonderful places. Although it was made clear that I was not responsable for them, the buzz kill factor still loomed large. First stop was Consuegra. Famous for it's iconic windmills made famous in Cervante's epic Don Quijote, Consuegra also hosts an early medieval fortress that has changed hands more times than an old penny, or as it would have been then...un duro During the medieval period La Mancha or old castille was undergoing a powerstruggle between the Moorish powers that had held most of the Iberian ... read more
