Hello all! Well once the drama settled from my roommate’s stuff getting stolen which was finally (Thank GOD!) settled last night things are getting back to normal. We are currently trying very hard to plan a trip Barcelona for this weekend so we can go to the beach. Last night the people from the school took us all to a restaurant for free. It was really fun. I will explain the meal which is a series of tapas or appetizers was very good. First we had bread with olive oil followed a cheese plate, then there was a salad with hard boiled eggs and tuna like my mom makes, then chorizo which is really good sausage, then this potatoe and egg thing like potatoe pancakes, then these yucky cheese sticks which aren't at all like mozzarella ... read more

Well can you all believe it Spain won. So we are off to the finals on Sunday vs. Germany. I don’t know what time the games air in the U.S. you all may have been at work. Once again everyone was in the plaza to watch the game. When they won there were fireworks and flares going off and people going just nuts. Spaniards really are a little loco even my professor said so. We then went to a little coffee shop afterwards but I didn’t get anything. Today we woke up to go a small winery where we tasted some white wine which was very fruity and I liked it. Then went to a castle which had the most awful winding narrow staircase, which gave me a headache, but it was cool to think ... read more

Okay I’m a few days behind on my blog but I’m almost caught up. Sunday I got to sleep in FINALLY. Sleep is a precious commodity here. I relaxed around the house all day which was lovely and then at 5pm we met to go watch a bull fight. We had no idea what to expect or how much it was but I’m glad I went. It was so disgusting though. The matadors had on these little outfits and they thought they were so macho. Anyway the goal is to stab the bulls with these little decorated knives and he starts foaming at the mouth. This continues until the matador just stabs him with a huge sword. Blood is then spewing out at this point so I felt really bad for him. I think from the ... read more

This past Friday was our first excursion of the trip. We went to a winery and 2 castles. Lets talk about the winery first. It was the more boring place I´ve been too. First of all, it was 11 in the morning and second of all, she did not have many grape plants. I was expecting Napa Valley or something, but it was a let down. Then after an hour of explaining how to make wine (basically cool it and keep it at the right temperature...who didn´t know that?), we tasted it 3 different types that they made. I guess I´m not a wine person, because I really didn´t like any of it. But a lot of people bought some to take home to their parents, or just drink while they´re here. After the most boring ... read more

Hola, Hope you are enjoying this blog as much as I am in writing it. Right now we are getting ready to go out for the fiesta. The fireworks don’t start until midnight!! I just can’t get used to this. My roommate wants to stay but I’m sure I’ll be exhausted. So here is a little about the food and stuff. My host mom cooks very well, I have had a shrimp/ham/peas and rice type of stir fry which was very good. I’ve had chicken, and also some short baby ribs today without the bbq sauce of course. I think tonight I had some type of egg tostada thing with sausage in it. She makes some great green beans thing. Overall I’m eating less than I did in the states. The diet is just so much ... read more

Monday night was supposed to be the start of la fiesta de San Juan with bands and fireworks, but it started to POUR!!! I can not explain to you how crazy town was. Everyone was scattering and running as if they'd die. It was definatly an experience. I ran 15 minutes home in the pouring rain. Everything I was wearing was soaked: hoodie, tshirt, bra, capri's, underwear, purse. I had to wring my clothes out. My mom was having a party for the fireworks since we get a really good view of the aquaduct from the house, so I ran into the house soaking and everyone in the basement was staring at me laughing. They were all dry, and I was just soaked. Ah what a moment. I got home around 11:30 pm and my mom ... read more

Tuesday June 24, 2008. Time is sure flying. Today as I mentioned is the Dia de San Juan. So before lunch Liz and I went out in the streets where there as a parade with those dolls with the big heads. And also a large clock which was like a music box with mimes that came out of it. They were really good. Finally there was these bag pipers and this guy who had instruments hooked up to his bike and he played while he drove around. I have never seen such beautiful shoes in my life. They all have this handmade leather look which is very expensive. The fashion here is really awesome. Everyone is dressed well all the time. The kids never look dirty and even the old ladies wear high heels. Tonight there ... read more

Hello everyone, Well I made it to say the least. That was the longest flight ever but thanks to Aunt Megan who pulled some strings and got me up to first class it went pretty well. THANK YOU!!! We just made it to our second plane in from Amsterdam to Madrid, and that plane sure was cramped. The good news was when we arrived at the Madrid airport all of our luggage was there. We waited around for the rest of the group to come and then the bus took us from Madrid to Segovia, where we waited for our host family. My lady is named Julia and she is nice, she has a very nice apartment. I would say she is in her late 50’s and has two daughters who moved out. She seems like ... read more

Hola, Last night was the big Italy vs. Spain soccer/futbol game. But before that we walked really far to a place where local Segovia players play, that was fun too. People are so into soccer here. I got your post Uncle Steve and Uncle Len. I couldn’t believe Italy did as poorly as they did, I like their goalie though. It was soo cool because they set up a big screen in the plaza mayor where all the people go to watch the game outside. Everyone was dressed in yellow and red and were chanting and stuff. They sure know how to live life here, I don’t think they ever stop drinking and smoking. But it was fun. They went crazy in the overtime when they got those 3 goals. On our way home everyone was ... read more
