What will be, will be... Life for me is about letting go. I don't like to worry about things and I don't like to over analyze and dwell on things. Mostly I think that I don't like to feel anxious. I believe that people should be happy, because if you're not, what's the point in living? I strongly believe that there is always something that can be changed, always something that can be improved. You are in control of your own happiness. Sounds a bit contradicting from the title huh? Simply put, I believe in being happy and knowing when to just let go and not dwell on the things that you cannot change. Concentrate on the things that you can change. With a little faith (in life itself), everything will simply fall into place as ... read more

Saturday 18th Sept No nap this afternoon and because we arrived in town so early it feels like we have a whole day free. It's amazing! I spent the bulk of the afternoon checking out the Burgos cathedral. Wow! Talk about stunning. It was overwhelming with it's beauty and detail and age. I took heaps of photographs but eventually had to stop as there were just too many beautiful things to capture.  Later we did our standard supermarket shop and then hunted about for dinner.  I had a hard night tonight, emotionally.    But I can't believe the amount of amazing support I got  from everyone. All these wonderful new friends I have made on the camino, they really are so lovely. Tomorrow I think the group will split. It's time for us all to go ... read more

Hi once again I am not sure where to start ... there seems so many things I would love to share with you all. Do I start with dinner at Rabanal with the Canon from Westminster Abbey or the fact that Rabanal was the end of a very hard day of wlaking... easy kms but agony as my left calf muscle was really tight!!! yues, I cried a lot but as is often the case, reached down deep and called on all my inner strength and that of my guardian angels to get me through... and I made it! The climb to the highest peak of our whole walk was the most magic experience of all. Starting off early we saw the sun rise and the many colours of the valley change as we climbed higher ... read more

To say the Spaniards have been intrigued by our camping habits would be a substantial understatement. Spanish campsites are on the whole excellently appointed with most boasting outdoor swimming pools and onsite bars and restaurants. For the city dwelling flat loving Spaniard the campsite involves a permanent pitch for their caravan plus attachments and often a number of surrounding permanent standing tents that may act as kitchens or general storage. The campsite is not a base for perhaps local excursions or country walks but somewhere to sit away from the city and watch your fellow campsite dwellers amidst as many of your home comforts that you can feasibly bring. Our two man expedition tent looks more than puny in comparison pitched next door to the locals expansive camping accoutrements. Many eyebrows raised and discouraging glances passed ... read more

We have now left the N-120 long behind us (well about 50 kilometres or so). The plains of Castille y Leon ended and the mountains of the Cordillera Cantabrica began. These mountains had long been on our horizon and our every bit as beautiful as their name. Three days ago Astorga with its fairy tale Gaudi palace was the entry point to this lush mountain range. After a day of gentle ascent we found ourselves in a world well removed from the dry plains below. The temperature dropped with the arrival of cooler winds from the north to produce and environment reminiscent of Navarre where we began our journey. We did achieve the incredible feat of 'out-clothing' the Spaniards with our attempts to keep warm. However, that most likely owed more to the unfortunate 24 hour ... read more

Hi!!!! Great weekend overall, even though I got no sleep!!! Friday night I had a blast. For starters, I had had a great day at work. Had my first class all to myself & it went really well. Wow, I had no idea it would feel so good to assign homework! The kids are all really great & I tend to be a people person as it is, so I love that my main job is just to get them to speak. It's challenging because all of the students are at different levels, and some really dominate the class, but I am really focusing on encouraging conversation with each & every student. Now the trick is learning 300 Spanish names... I actually have a lot more class preparation than I thought. I'm supposed to prepare conversation ... read more

Hola Amigos I´m seven days into my cycling and time just seems to have stopped. I now beat to the rhythm of the pilgrim. Wake up well before the of dawn (can´t help it - some of the other pilgrims are up and out by 5:00!!) but I try to stay in bed til at least 6:00am. I´m usually the last out the door - the Albergue closes at 8 & I´m gone between 7 - 8am. I ride for an hour or so, stop off at a bar for a chocolate (cola cao) and a wee snackette of something bought from the paneteria the day before. Then back on the road again, stop for lunch - bread, cheese, pate, olives, a salami kind of thingy & chocolate (thanks Philippe for the tip on the pate). ... read more
