We have been teetering on the edge of the Basque Country but today we went right into the region so left behind the relatively flat area for more hills and valleys and immediately noticed there must be a high rainfall as it was soooo green with cattle and sheep and not a vineyard to be seen. We could only liken it to Gippsland in Victoria or Bega in NSW. We then descended to the Bay of Biscay to the fishing village of Getaria where El Kano is revered for bringing back 17 men who set out with 240 others to circumnavigate the world. EVERYTHING is called El Kano something. Mike did note that the memorial was built to the survivors, not the lost!! We visited a family run artisan anchovy producer. Oh my goodness, I will ... read more

We had a great dinner last night across from our Hotel, only problem was they don't serve dinner until 8 pm. I got in at 3pm took an hour to warm up, no food or drink all day I am ready to eat and get to bed by 5pm. So, Kris and I go to a small bar and have beer and small dish of shrimp, go back to the room and hang up all the wet stuff everywhere. There is no heat control in the room and its still cold no way my stuff will dry by morning. I complain to the manager and he tells me the heat is automatic, it will turn on at 8 pm and off at 7 am, well crap now what. I got back the room and begin the ... read more

Day 1 on the Trek starts with partly cloudy sky's temp. in the 60's no wind just right for the beginning. I start with a light day pack with water, rain jacket, lightweight parka, walking poles and not much else. The hotel is SWARMED with tour people who completely dominate to free breakfast area, I can't even get a piece of bread to go, Kris can't get coffee so I say screw it I am going, I leave with no food. I start the walk from our hotel which is 30 min. from the real start of the camino. Kris goes back to bed. It's a pleasant walk down to the sea to where the Camino begins. The trail comes to a dead end with no clear direction to take, right? Left? Straight? After a few ... read more

We arrived at our apartment in Croix de Chavaus, Montreal. Paris. A easy ride on the metro to the centre of Paris or about 4 Klm walking, which many evening we walked back to the small Boheme apartment, a kitchen bathroom, bedroom and studio lounge and dine. Damè Feeling quite happy with ourselves with the choice in area and accommodation, we started to tick of the list of attractions we wanted to see, the Effie Tower, Louvres, Palace of Versailles the Grand Palaces of Paris, the walks along the Seine River and the countless bridges along its banks and Notre Damè. Not all the fountains were working, I think due to the time of the year still spring, but never the less Paris didn't disappoint in grandeur, and in beauty. We visited Jim Morrison's grave in ... read more

It was another grey day in Pamplona so we decided to head down to the coast to see if the sun was shining there. It was!! Just to the west of San Sebastian is the town of Zarautz. We parked up there and headed straight towards the sea. The waves were rolling in and the surfers were loving it. The public toilets were closed though so we had to go into a cafe immediately. There were surfboards to rent everywhere and pictures of surfers doing their thing. It was all quite quirky in a way, which was further illustrated by the bizarre sculptures along the promenade. The prom continues all the way to neighbouring Getaria. It's a lovely walk and many people were taking advantage of the sunshine. There were a lot of cyclists out enjoying ... read more
