We had a great dinner last night across from our Hotel, only problem was they don't serve dinner until 8 pm. I got in at 3pm took an hour to warm up, no food or drink all day I am ready to eat and get to bed by 5pm. So, Kris and I go to a small bar and have beer and small dish of shrimp, go back to the room and hang up all the wet stuff everywhere. There is no heat control in the room and its still cold no way my stuff will dry by morning. I complain to the manager and he tells me the heat is automatic, it will turn on at 8 pm and off at 7 am, well crap now what. I got back the room and begin the process of drying my stuff with the hair dryer. 8 pm is dinner, the issue here is Kris being a vegetarian. We start down the road of "vegetarian" and we get "Ahh no meat" right, Fish? No. Eggs? No. Ahh ok lamb? No. Bread, potato's, carrots, artichok, beets, etc. Ahhh chicken? No!!!!! We finally get the message across and had a terrific meal.
Day 2 greets
with blue sky's and renewed strength. After a nice breakfast I start stage 2 to Debra. Map shows 18k with a rise of 1,200ft and a 6.5 Hr ETA, works for me shorter than yesterday. It's a steep climb from the ocean but and a paved surface, pretty easy going. It takes about 90 min. to make he assent before it starts to level off, the scenery is breath taking. Rolling green hills, blooming fruit trees, soft breeze, partly cloudy skies livestock everywhere. It's really what I hoped for, once again I loose track of time. It really unusual to hear sounds from such a distance, the whole valley is alive with dogs barking, donkeys braying, chickens crowing, cows mooing and most unusual the sound of 100s of bells. I have seen bells on cows, but not only cows, horses, sheep, goat all have bells and all ring at different tones. Bigger the animal, bigger the bell even different tones for individual animal's. One horse has a different tone than his buddy. Its makes for a symphony of sound really pleasant. The trail is a yo yo, up 1200 Ft down 1000ft, up 800ft, down 600ft, up 800ft down 700
Ft all the way to Zibru. It's an ocean front village with the largest sandy beach in Spain. Spotless clean, really cute town. Lots of ocean front bars and eatery's , still great weather and easy walking. It's a short walk thru town, then its up,up, up again tis time to 1400ft and a small town with a very old church. The trail up was a weird mix of rolling fields to dense timber then back to rolling fields. It went from walking thru pastures where you open and close gates and walk with cows, horses, sheep and goats to walking on the freeway, no chance of getting bored. I come to a rotary and can't find the yellow arrow. I walk all 4 options for about 100 yards no yellow arrow. Dam I am lost. I go back to the last yellow arrow and try to figure out which way to go. My Fitbit says I am close to the end distance so it has to be here somewhere. I see a guy walking with his dog, a break my rule of not engaging rando's. Fortunately he speaks perfect english and offers to walk with me and show me
a short cut back to the main Camino. Very interesting guy, sells machine tools in the USA, travels all over US and loves walking. He has a really well trained small white dog that obeys his commands IMMEDIATELY, when a car is coming he say something in Spanish and the dog jumps into his arms from great distances, very cool. He has done the Camino several times but not this route. He tells me the Camino trails take into consideration important monuments, churches, water access, hotel access, safety but not really the true path of St James. He also tells me there are much easier routes to the same town's I am headed to over the next 30 days. We walk and visit for about 30 min. when he stops and says" here is your lodging". Sure enough I am home and it only 2:30pm sweet! I thank him shake hands and he and his dog are gone. I text Kris that I am at the Hotel. She texts me back "where the F____ is it"! Not a good sign. She is walking up from Debra a very, very steep 2K from town. She was not a happy camper, but
softens when she see's our digs. All and all a GREAT day.
