With a day in Malaga. Partied too hard first night and paid for it the next few days. Perfect hot sunny weather in Spain, as agreed. Perfect wind in Tarifa, as agreed. One good buddy as amped as I was to be learning kite surfing; Pistol Pete. One awesome very relaxed kite instructor and his wicked dog. One very chilled out hostel and a bunch of very cool people. The recipe for an excellent week! Kite surfing is not easy, there are a lot of elements to deal with, flying the kite (which is an aero wing), wind fluctuations, the surf, other people crashing their kites (which you dont want to be near) But it is good fun and i will be doing it again at some stage to get good at it. The idea of ... read more

Well, a view of Africa and an Africa update anyway. . . My last day in London I went on the hunt for a bookstore that carried “Learn to Speak Swahili” to help me prep for my Africa trip (I’m supposed to learn Swahili while I’m trying to speak Spanish in Spain . . . riight). Strolling the streets of London always turns out to be dangerous for me; one, because I somehow end up in the shopping districts and two, I tend to trip a lot because I’m always looking up at all the cool things around the area. Anyway, when I got to this bookstore I headed to the travel section and found this great book called “Body and Soul Escapes”. Talk about my kind of travel book! It is a guide of ... read more

Untitled Hola Amigos!! As usual I have been procrastinating with the blogs so I have a couple of thing to tell everyone about. It will probably be over the course of a couple of blogs (I am deciding as I write). At the beginning of May (April 29-May 2 to be exact) Jenna, Kristi and I rented a car and headed south. Our destination was Tarifa. It is a small town in the very south of Spain (furthest point south in continental Europe) and is most popular for Kite surfing! We found out immediately why this wind reliant sport was so popular here. It is CONSTANTLY windy! Morning to night... From what I hear the reason for the wind has something to do with Tarifa being the point in which the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea ... read more

Britten, dann n finnisches Paaerchen, wo sie ... read more

Pru, Marcus, and I left Sevilla pretty early in the morning bound for Tarifa. Pru and Marcus were heading to Tarifa to catch a ferry to Morocco, and I wanted to check out the coast. The bus ride took a few hours, and we got to Tarifa in the early afternoon. As we approached Tarifa, the ocean came into view, and there was land on the far side of it. I knew that Africa was close (9 miles), but I had no idea it would be so easy to see. Our first order of business in Tarifa was finding something to eat, so we tracked down a cafe. After eating, we started walking towards the port, and Marcus and Pru stopped in a travel agency to get ferry tickets. We ended up walking the long way ... read more

it was the birthday of my flatmate so we grabed the chance to head to the mediterrean sea. we found Bolonga beach - in the west of Tarifa - at night, walked some time to reach the dunes, where we wanted to begin with the celebration of this very important day. with rum, beer and other ingredients we spoiled our brain. the beach was kind of windy and the night was cold, but at the morning the sun burned and we woke up in an idyll... ... read more

Traveling by boat is one of my favorite ways of travel. Don’t know exactly why, but I have always found the big blue fascinating. The ferry ride between Tarifa, Spain and Tangier, Morocco is trafficking a route where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. Makes the ride a bit rocky, when two large oceans come together in one strait, fighting for space when the Mediterranean wants out and the Atlantic wants in. The rocky kind of ride that cause a large proportion of the passengers to feel very sick, completely unable to enjoy the ride to any extent, only wishing to set their feet on dry land. Seasickness however does not become me, it takes more than a wave - even if the waves in this case are rather big and frequent - to throw ... read more
