We choose the most southern tip of Spain, Tariffa, as our jumping off point to Morocco. We also thought it would warmer. Little did we know that it is the kiting capital of Europe. So it was always windy. We kept our coats on and spent several days exploring. A day at Baelo Claudi, an archeological city from the ancient Roman Empire on the Bay of Bolonia. It became prosperous because of its fishing industry and fish processing facilities – they salted fish and also made a fish paste from all the left over parts, a delicacy in Rome. There were examples of aqueducts, roads, theater, temples, markets, baths, all surrounded by beautiful coastal countryside.... read more

We left Seville and headed off for Tarifa. This would be our furthest point out and from now on we would be on our return journey to the United Kingdom. However, having said that it would take at least a week of solid driving in Suzy to get home. And that is without any sleep. The weather has cooled and although still a warm 25 degrees it feels a lot colder. Perhaps the mountains have something to do with this. The scenery has changed from flat lands to hilly, the vegetation cactus some flowering with pretty orange buds . Fields of corn, some harvested, sunflowers , the sea to one side of us and Africa. Tantalisingly close despite the heat haze hugging the Staits of Gibraltar. Huge container vessels at sea. An odd scene in a ... read more

Like horses out the starting gates we were packed and ready by 9.40am, paying our 56 Euro’s (approximately £45.00 GBP) for our four nights at Camping Fuzeta, it would have been an extra 4 Euro’s plus hook up for Georgie, Oliver was desperate to get going. The last two nights had been mixed, we had gone for a meal out on Friday, mixed grill for Ian and Woolly and fresh Tuna steak for me and Woolly with a large jug of sangria we felt the 22 Euro’s (approximately £18.00 GBP) not bad value for money. Having settled down in the tent with Kindles (we would be towing a juggernaut behind us if we had to carry the number of books we go through!), I thought we were in for the night….Wrong… Woolly says – I heard ... read more

Today the weather was better. I strolled down to the beach to relax. I decided that tonight will be my last night in Tarifa. Although haven't decided on where I will go tomorrow. Going to Skype Laura tonight to see what she is up to. My buddy David joined me at the beach and then we went to do a bit of exploring then decided to go for lunch - white fish, calamari and prawns. Very nice indeed! Now chilling in the lounge. It is peaceful with a bit of relaxing music on in the background.... read more

After spending the day with a new buddy in Malaga, we headed to Tarifa 14/05. It is a small but beautiful Spanish town with gorgeous sandy beaches. We arrived at about 7pm, checked into the Melting Pot hostel and headed out for some food. 3 courses and a drink for €12 seemed rather good. I've just got back from a stroll (11.30am) walked across the beach, however it is definitely suitable weather for kite surfing and sods law when I get back in the sun comes out! Met the German girls and guys who Laura had previously met here. David & I went out for breakfast, we treated ourselves to cream cheese and smoked salmon, which came with a glass of cava (only 6€). The weather was overcast and cold, so we walked around the castle ... read more

The Sun is trying to breakthrough today and it’s actually quite mild. Still no need for flip flops just quite yet, much to Greg’s dismay. Breakfast is included in the price of our stay, so I am curious to see what this could possibly consist of. It consists of the following: Value while bread, communal jam and butter and Lidl mini cupcakes. Oh, and a coffee pot too, sheer luxury. We have to wait our turn as it’s only a small area and it’s really busy, so we decide to sit in the foyer until it gets a bit quieter. Whilst we are waiting, our local jake appears and eyes us briefly. He then takes off his hat, and while still looking at us, stakes claim to the remaining free seat by placing his hat onto ... read more

Hay-low y’all! Well, to celebrate the last weekend before exams begin naturally Carly and I spent the weekend inside with our heads in our books studying. Actually, we did the exact opposite. Carly and I made plans to go to Tarifa on Friday but since the forecast predicted a good beach day we altered our plans and slept in until about 11 o’clock, laid around the house and then around one o'clock headed to the beach with our friend Alex. It really was a good day to lay at the beach and, in all honesty, I haven’t actually been to the beach to just lay around since about October. I go to the beach all the time but usually I’m running or walking along it, very rarely do I ever just go and sit. I don’t ... read more

Today we took a ferry from Tarifa and had a short visit in Tanger. It´s too late now, so I´ll have to update that blog and this one as well tomorrow from Malaga. Keep in touch, I promise more pictures and infos are on the way, but now there just isn´t enough time. See you. EDIT: seems like I didn´t. I probably won´t anymore, but who knows? There are those trips, sometimes, when I just don´t feel like writing at all.... read more

It's honestly like every legitimate surf town that I've been to in California, the side walks while driving into town where store after store of neon colored signs advertising wind surf equipment and lessons with Spaniards strutting around the streets like flamingos in bright board-shorts and flip-flops. Once off the bus we all rushed the bathrooms at the ferry station and scoured the horizon for what we were told was the Moroccan coastline. After our tour of the small white-washed streets we visited two of the older churches in town: one that was an old mosque and one that wasn't, but there were many parts of the city that showed how the Arabic past was still very much present in today's Catholic world: old water fountains, communal ovens, and baths. Around one of the puertas (doors) ... read more
