Kathy Sbowing Off
Our door to our new AirB&B. Saturday morning we made our way to the train station to head to Seville. This is about a 2 and a half hour ride from Madrid. The countryside was mixed with mountains, desert, and olive trees. If you ever need to know where the spanish olive that you bought at Krogers comes from, it comes from between Matrid and Seville I'm sure. Of course I'm kidding. There are more olive trees in Spain but there are a lot between Matrid and Seville.
We arrived in Seville and hopped the bus for a harrowing bus ride to our AirB&B. What a trip. I thought the drivers in Matrid were rough but they have nothing on our bus driver in Seville. Kathy paid for the bus and before she laid her money down, she went sliding by me down the middle isle of the bus about 30 mph. I found her in the back of the bus getting our from under her pack. What a trip....
Seville has a population of about 1M with a total urban population of 1.5M. It has the only river port in Spain which was used extensively during trade with the Americas. Ferdianan Megellan departed from

...her relaxing skills. The terrance was wonderful. It was cool most of the day. Seville on his first circumnavigation of the world. Because of sillting in the river, the port was moved to Cadiz on the coast in the 17th century and the city began an economic decline. In 1992, Seville hosted the World Exposition and an economic resurgence occured. Today Seville is a vibrant city with much to see.
We arrived at our destination. It is a cute tiny apartment down a narrow street. It is located on the third floor at the top of the building and includes a rooftop patio. There was no elevator so we walked up the 3 flights with our packs. Our host felt sorry for Kathy and offered to carry her pack. I said "NO!. If you carry her pack now, she will think that I should carry for her in the future." Kathy glared at me, but I think it was good move on my part.
If you want to know what tiny house living is, this is the place. It is small....but very nice. It has a bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, laundry room, closet, and living room all within a 125 sq ft. HGTV would be proud.
Saturday evening, we had a couple
Bridge Across the Canal
Interestng design but later found a similar design in Valencia. of beers at a local pub and went to the grocery for food and wine. We snacked and went to bed early. Sunday, we walked about 18 kms on the river walk and found a nice park. There were a number of activities along the river including rowing and kayaking, running, biking, and fishing. The river walk is clearly a community area. Later we made our way to the older section of town where we found the restaurant Qvejas Negras that was recommended by Jorge, one of our previous hosts. It was very popular and we were lucky to finally find a couple of seats at the bar. It is clear why the place is so popular...the food was ourstanding. We meandered our way back home and on the way, we found some ice cream. This ritual has become one of our favorites. Walk a while, eat a late lunch, walk some more, eat some ice cream. Not a bad routine don't you thnk?
On Monday , we walked across the Canal Seville Bonanza to another section of town. This area was less touristy and more residential. Our objective was to walk to a park along the the Rio
Narrow Street
This is one of many narrow streets in Old Town Seville. Guadalquivir. We were never able to get into the park due to heavy traffic so we headed back to the tourist area for lunch at Qvejas Negras. Again it was crowded and we had to wait for a table. We sat next to a young couple, one of which could speak english. We carried on a nice conversation while we ate our lunch. We walked to the Real Alcazar De Sevilla for a stroll around the park before we found our ice cream. I love this routine. The parks in Spain are interesting in that they are more efficiently designed to stand the desert climate. Most have little to no grass with native drought talolerant landscapping.
After lunch we had a siesta and then walked to the site of the Expo 92. The walk was nice but there was little to see. That night we packed and prepared for our train trip to Valencia.
