The first day of May dawned an absolutely glorious morning and with the sun glinting on the recent snow dropped on the Sierra Nevada mountains it was a perfect time for photos and video of the rather dramatic scenery. The Sunday bus timetable to Granada wasn’t as frequent as the Mon-Sat version which had been hourly. Today it was 2 hourly and we decided the 9.20am was way too early and that 11.20am sounded better and would give us time to explore the opportunity of Alhambra tickets at the venue before searching out tapas for lunch in a cafe/bar. We had noticed the young women with the tent head off to Granada to check out the nightime bars and this morning all was quiet from their tent site. The tent had stayed up well so they ... read more

The cloud of yesterday has cleared away this morning to another brilliantly fine day. However whatever that wind change and cooling down last evening was it has left behind a new dusting of snow on the Sierra Nevada mountain range which rises up dramatically behind the city of Granada. We hadn’t been able to make the mountains out clearly last night when we arrived as they were hidden by the cloud but this morning with the cloud gone we realised just how close the mountain range is. We don’t have tickets for Granada’s main tourist attraction, the Alhambra. We hadn’t appreciated the popularity of the place and although we could have bought them online once we knew the dates we were going to be in the city the tickets for today and tomorrow were all gone. ... read more

For once it has dawned a little overcast which should actually make for pleasant driving conditions as we head for Granada and our accommodation in a bungalow in a camping ground for 3 nights. There hadn’t been much on offer in Granada perhaps because of the holiday weekend that we are entering and so we will experience our first try at ‘slumming it ‘on the BBA V3. We managed to get the transfer of our ‘stuff ‘from the apartment up in the two lifts to the car at street level in 2 moves which was pretty astounding or was it perhaps because our general food supplies are a bit low at present and there wasn’t quite as much to carry. The N432 between Cordoba and Granada shows as a scenic road all the day so we ... read more

*Part 2 of Andalucía trip. Read previous entry for info about Sevilla and Semana Santa processions! We headed to Granada by Alsa bus on Saturday morning. Our trip there passed through dry, hilly landscape, with a lot of red earth. What you see a lot of are olive trees. Apparently, Spain produces 40% of the world’s olive oil, and most of the production in Spain is in Andalucia. As we got closer to the city, we could see the snowy Sierra Nevadas behind the city. I wasn’t expecting such a beautiful, dramatic landscape! We left our bags in luggage lockers at the bus station and then took a city bus to near the Cathedral. We stopped at CaixaBank to print our tickets for the Alhambra (which my friend had bought online a couple of months earlier—and ... read more

We have been in Granada since last Sunday and I had it in my head that we're to be talking the Train to Jerez on Saturday. Opps, We should have left by train Saturday at 11:24 AM. When we realized we had tickets to leave Saturday at 11:24 AM - it was 2 hours later - after the train had left that we were to be on. I don't know if we got the days mixed up or were just not paying attention. We got help from the Hotel here and the Travel Agent to rebook the Hotel in Jerez from Monday - Wednesday. The two trains leaving Granada for Jerez today (Easter Sunday) are totally booked. So we will wait until Monday. The Hotel here in Granada has room to let us stay another couple ... read more

The Hotel Abba was a whirlwind of students checking out this morning. We spoke briefly (in English) with a beautiful Female French student from Strasberg who was checking out to go to Alicante, on the Southeast Mediterranean coast. She had enjoyed her stay in Granada. Yesterday we rode the city bus to an absolutely beautiful area of centro Granada that we had not been to before. We found a stunning boulevard about a half a mile long bookended by two massive fountains. On one side was a huge El Cortes Ingles department store and of course we had to look in there. They are the Nordstroms or Macys of Spain and have everything you could want, but at fairly high prices. We looked at clothes and are lunch in the cafeteria. LC bought some cologne he ... read more

We flew down from Barcelona on Sunday evening to the little Granada airport where the weather doesn't require jetways and you deplane from both from and back directly to the Tarmac, just like 1977. The flight was fairly full and we had across the aisle seats. LC got "lucky" and had a young mom and baby next to him, but she was the happiest infant and didn't cry at the pressure changes. I had an open seat between me and the Spanish business man on the window, but there were not many empties, as there usually aren't these days. We took a taxi into the Hotel Abba and it was just about sunset. Granada is at base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It's in a setting not unlike the Northwest. The City is at about 2,200 ... read more

Myśmy poszły jednym szlakiem i w połowie musiałyśmy zawrócić bo ... read more

Wczoraj wieczorem przeżyłysmy chwile grozy. Próbowałyśmy zarezerwować bilety do Alhambry. Szybko pobiegłysmy do niej. Było tuż przed 22-gą i powiedziała że może być już za późno bo tylko do 22.00 sprzedają. Szybko włączyła komputer, jeszcze szybciej wprowadziła wszystkie potrzebne dane i nacisnela OK. Chwila nerwowego oczekiwania i SĄ! Kupione o 21.59.37.
