After a three hour delay out of East Midlands we are delighted to finally land into Almeria in the south of Spain and find that our car hire company is still open and waiting for us (they were scheduled to close an hour ago). So after handing over our credit card and signing the appropriate forms we’re handed the keys to our hire car for our long weekend - a left hand drive Seat Leon - and we head off on the 1.5 hour drive to our B&B. At first the feat seemed a little daunting considering it’s now 11:45pm and Lachlan’s first attempt at driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road, but as we potter along we find things aren’t too hard. Thanks to the good instructions given to us by the B&B, the ... read more

After our adventures on the farm, we headed East to Almeria by bus. The change in scenery was quite dramatic, with the seamingly endless blockade of beachfront hotels and resorts finally giving way to smaller villages and eventually some coastal cliffs. Almeria and the sorrounding area is mostly famous for being used as the movie set for many Spaghetti Westerns (Western movies made very cheaply in the 60s and 70s), this being the main reason for us traveling here. So in that vain we´re going to present The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Almeria: Firstly the Ugly. Although the city centre seems to be fairly nice, although slightly outdated in architecture, and has a vibrant cafe culture, the city surrounding the core streets is quite poor. Many buildings seem to have been under construction ... read more

Since the 4th of Feb. We have been moving around a bit. I really should update this blog more often. We’ve done a strange sort of circuit really. North to Lisbon, east to Evora, across the border into Spain and back south to El Rocio/Seville (almost completing the circuit back to the Algarve.) Then we have driven to Marbella and are presently in the Cabo De Gata National Park just east of Almeria on the far east bit of Andalucia. Our current total mileage is just over 7,000 miles and we’re about to start heading north on our long return from the sun. It’s exciting to tour again but the roadwork can be draining and we need the odd recovery days to rest. To try to sum up the last few weeks I’d say It’s been ... read more

Hello friends, this has to be a quick entry for now, I have 4 minutes left in the cafe... Myself and two friends are about to hitchhike across southern Spain towards Cadiz, where we will try to enter port and find free passage to preferably the Canary Islands. It should be great fun, and an interesting challenge. More to come shortly. Enjoy the new pics! Miss everyone, Adrian.... read more
