Bratislava
Bratislava Castle from directly on the Austrian - Slovakian border. Day 36, 6th July.
Bratislava - Dunajská Streda - Komárom (HUNGARY)
We were all hungover badly, with little cash. Spent a lot of time hanging around the café drinking strong coffee and feeling very sorry for ourselves. Toby decided he wanted to go into the city to use the internet, the other two wanted to rest. So I decided to walk around to the naturist area on the other side of the lake and to sunburn my buns a little. We all set out after lunch and traveled along busy and confusing roads to try and find the little roads out of Bratislava. The traffic police eventually directed us onto a bike path (very rough) along the ‘Little Danube’ where we found the road we were looking for via Dunajská Streda. The area was flat with corn and sunflower fields. The villages were mainly Hungarian-speaking with signposts in both languages. The going was difficult, a strong headwind slowed us down to around 10mph for most of the way, morale was low. We ate frequently and drank loads of water. A blessing came along in the form of a big tractor and trailer which Rory suggested we get in the
Cheating!
We snook behind this tractor and trailer for 30kms to beat the headwind and to follow in his slipstream to the Hungarian border. slipstream of. It worked and pulled us 20 miles at 20mph all the way to our destination - Kormáron.
We celebrated, all high-spirited, by having a cold beer before we crossed the border bridge into the Hungarian town of Kormarom where we were escorted to the bank and campsite by a Hungarian chap on a bike. The camp ground was infested with mozzies and our blood supplied them with a nice feast before we crashed out.
