Ultima tappa in Russia e la citta' di Astrakhan offre un ottimo incentivo alle celebrazioni; proprio da queste parti, dove l'ampio delta del fiume Volga si getta nel Mar Caspio, si produce uno dei simboli del lusso delle tavole di tutto il mondo: il pregiato caviale nero di storione beluga. Dopo tre settimane di sano ma poco stimolante cibo russo costituito principalmente da zuppe, ravioli e stufati, le mie papille gustative sono piu' che mai pronte per quella grande esplosione di gusto che solo un piatto aristocratico e ricercato come questo sapra' procurarmi. La citta' si rivela subito molto interessante al viaggiatore, con uno splendido cremlino, un riammodernato lungofiume e soprattutto una quantita' incredibile di vecchie abitazioni tradizionali di legno che occupano anche le vie a due passi dal centro; la loro presenza, i loro raffinati ... read more

First serious off road driving The area between Liman and Astrakhan was sandy, I think it was part of the seabed of the Caspian and the lovely tarmacked road disappeared and it turned into a white single lane sandy track. For the first time on this trip, I was able to take the car off-road and drive it hard. The E119 still appeared as a purple line on my SatNav, but on the road it was just a sandy dirt track surrounded by flat featureless and desolate landscape. The area was also quite windy because it was beside the Casian sea. For four hours I was driving on this white sandy stuff and occasionally hitting large puddles of muddy water. Car oui c'etait vrai depuis Volgograd mais la ca se confirme, l'ete est la. En Russie c'est un peu binaire : soit la nuit il gele, soit il fait 35 degres pendant la journee ; la c'est clairement plus la deuxieme option. Independamment du climat moi qui aime vous saupoudrer mes posts d'histoire et autres anecdotes a Astrakhan ca a ete sympathique et joli, mais assez peu culturel. Je pourrais vous dire que la ville est celebre pour ses pasteques, ses poissons et son caviar, mais vous vous en foutriez et vous auriez bien raison. Je pourrais ajouter qu'aux alentours du seizieme siecle elle constituait avec sa region un territoire autonome mais que ca ne plaisait pas trop a Ivan le Terrible qui s'en est empare et a construit un des plus jolis Kremlin qu'il m'ait ... read more
