Back in Moscow ! I was met at the station by Andre, the driver that the ambassador was indeed kind enough to send. Yet again, another trip down nostalgia avenue. I am not going to bore you with stories of what has changed and what has not, suffice it to say that all has changed yet nothing has. My parents came to meet me here for the week-end and it was a most wonderful pleasure to see them again. We had a most wonderful 4 days: we did a monastery tour of Moscow until I reached an overdose point, went back to the red Square, the Arbat and all that I hold dear in Moscow. The city has improved for the best, the buildings have been nicely restored, the new ones could be worse, and there ... read more

Russia has an inexhaustible supply of miserable fat old women whose sole aim in life seems to be to harass, harangue and chastise the young for doing not very much wrong at all. What infernal alchemy is at work that transforms Russia's inexhaustible supply of pleasant and friendly youngsters into these hideous old hags? I must apologise for this seemingly uncharitable rant. For several days we had gone out of our way to help these Babushkas, carrying ridiculously heavy bags down flights of stairs for them, giving up seats, holding open doors and filling their begging bowls, but frankly our patience is wearing thin. I mean, do we really need to be shouted at for five minutes in Russian for attempting to buy two 13 rouble metro tickets with three ten rouble notes - particulary when ... read more

Well, we home again. This trip was like a flash. I feel a bit tired because in the last four days I slept 3-4 hours. We've met in our favorite pub Sally O'Briens in Moscow city, they introduce new Monday happening called "Alco Rhythm", only best Moscow DJs playing. After some time we moved to a club Mio, our friend promoter told us Tiga is playing there and imagine our faces when we realised the entrance fee is 1000 Rbl its 27 Euro!!! Who is Mr Tiga??? Unbelievable to pay such amount of money just for come in. Or club managers are fucking crazy.... After short discussion we agreed on 40 euros for 4 persons and fly in. Too many people inside, you even cant stand, music is so-so. Right for newcomers but not for me, ... read more

By the time I made it to another city the blizzard had calmed a bit and it was late enough in the day that people were starting to wake up and work etc. This part of Kazakhstan was beautiful when I passed through, especially with all the snow and pine trees that go on forever. Sasha the russian with the gut dropped me off at a bus station. The poverty was worse than russia by this point, we were in a place with no banks and no atms of course and there is no place to exchange dollars or roubles for Kazakhstani Tenge. So i was without a penny, phone number, address, or any information as to where my friend Sara was and how to reach her other than that she lived in a town called ... read more

So I have to recap on what the hell happpend to me since the last time I really wrote. I have One half hour, so i'll do the best that i can. After taking the train to Novsibirsk and getting out without knowing a damn thing, I made my way to a hotel and spent WAY too much money on a crappy little room. A room with a shower was double, so alas another day spelling like myself. I ventured out into the -30C night and found my way to the center square with what I assume was a Lenin statue. I had fast food because to be honest it's all you can possibly afford in Russia. I then found the Internet cafe and attempted to write a few emails, but i got caught up in ... read more

Bok! Evo! Imava svojo sobo in naslednji dan sva osvojila ruscino, ruske avtobuse in ... read more

The morning was promising. Sunny with a tiny layer of clouds. The obvious destination of today is Red Square (Krasnaya Ploshchad) and Kremlin. We got off incredibly richly decorated metro, a museum per sè, and behind the corner we saw the Resurrection Gate (Voskresenskiye vorota) - a perfect frame for the view on the St. Basil cathedral - the world known cathedral with the funny coloured onions as towers. We walked through the red arch and got closer to the center of it all. The square is immense indeed, but maybe a bit less than expected. With in mind the thought of someone landing an airplane on this square probably the expectations themselves were exagerated. After we took few pictures we walked around it - as at this hour it is not permitted to walk ... read more

And this is where it all begins. Our Trans-Siberian crossing. We left from The Hague for Schiphol very early, and there we met the other two travel companions. We boarded Scandinavian airlines with stop over in Copenhagen, and before we realised, we were cruising over Moscow. Huge. Lots of green. The first impressions are based on what we saw out of the airplain window. Too much forests actually! Where are the houses and a city with a nine million population? We realised that the airport we were landing on (and of which we still don’t know the name) is quite outside from the city. But before getting there we had to pass the passport and visa control. We just entered Russia, and we already were in for the first Russian experience: the queue! In about an ... read more
