Perfect timing for a short summer holiday. We had the greatest weather, although the last month it has been raining all over the country. For a long time I was planning to visit the saxons fortified churches. In Transylvania there are a lot of them, some very well preserved and famous, others very close to become ruins. After I've done some research, I printed the maps and tried to establish an itinerary. We had only 4 days to acomplish this mission. As usual things dont go exactly as you plan them. What have we managed so far: Day 1 - Sibiu - Cisnadie - Cisnadioara Day 2 - Sibiu - Medias - Biertan Day 3/4 - Sibiu - Agnita - Bradeni Returning to Sibiu I found the city with a new look. A lot of construction ... read more

Although I write this from Hungary, Several days later, Medias is the last town in Romania we visited, so is dated and placed from there. "Do they have running hot water here?" Has become a by-word for the dumb, pointless question. Our route ran to Brasov, then Sibiu via public transport, then piking up a car in sibiu (Cultural Capital of the EU, 2007), we made our way to Sighishoara, then to Suceava, then Bistritsa, then back to Sighisoara, Sibiu and Medias, to drop the car off and pick up a train to Budapest. As you can imagine, every town was beautiful. special Kudos must go to sibiu (lots of old buildings with pretty coloured rooves), and to Sighisoara, which looked exactly like a picture postcard, only bigger. Really. It looked more like fairy land. ... read more

"Use the blessed chance - that of being a human - to make the world better, fairer and more beautiful, not only for mankind but for the whole nature!" Herman Oberth - one of the founding fathers of rocketry and astronautics. After 3 wonderful days in Sighisoara we were heading towards Sibiu. Bought ourselves tickets to the mini-bus and 2 hours later there we were! Since Friday the weather was very very hot and the Sunday noon ride was a nightmare - I ve promised my self I ll never travel in a mini-bus (peasants traveling with frozen lambs in their bags, bicycles and what ever u can think of). Sibiu is the European Cultural Capital of 2007 in partnership with Luxemburg and it had to be on my itinerary list. Of course we planned for ... read more
