Well as I wont be travelling out of Portugal in the near future, I've decided to give u all some snipets about my days in and around Portugal, including some visits as well as pics of the places. Today was one of those calm days (erm calm that is...)when one has kids there is hardly a calm day. I took Rafa to school and had Nadine home with me. Decided that Rafa's room needed some adjusting and put up a scarf of his fav soccer club, SLB (Benfica for those that dont know). Also added another shelf to my wall as I have tons of books which I need to display..yes another hobbie of mine..READING:))) And now as both kids watch Noddy, I have got the meal going, I'll put up some local recipes soon:) ... read more

This is a perfect place to stay in if you want to get a good rest, yet be right in the middel of all the action. There are rooms with private baths or rooms without where the W.C. is just outside the corridor. All rooms have great big windows, some have a varanda, all have T.V (local only) and all have heating. The breakfast is all you can eat...coffee, tea, milk, hot chocolate, lovely bread, butter, sweet, cheese and ham. The ppl that own the B&B also have a restaurant on the same street and if you care to take meals there they offer a 3 euro discount. Visited Countries Map ... read more

Last Thursday my comrades and I took the train to Lisbon, Portugal’s premiere city by the sea, capital, and San Francisco knock off—in the non-chronological sense, that is. We arrived early on Friday, and wandered groggily, taking stock of the immediate neighborhood surrounding or Residéncia. From our admittedly superficial investigations, it seems that that the city offers, in no particular order: 1) Public spaces wavering between extreme friendliness and unfriendliness to pedestrians—on one hand there are ample and monumental plazas and parks scattered about, as well as an almost pathological, though aesthetic, ordinance about paving sidewalks with white and black cobblestone. Moreover, the citizen public art (read vandalism) is highly evolved and often lovely. On the other hand, sidewalks are often non-existent or laughably narrow owing to massive and poorly managed public works, ... read more

So this past weekend I went to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, here they call it Lisboa. There was a lot more to see there than I thought there was, and more complicated with the Portuguese language. It sounds nothing like Spanish, but many people spoke English. So after the 10 hour overnight train ride on Thursday night, we arrived in Lisboa, with an hour difference of Madrid, at 8:30 in the morning. We left our bags at the residencia but couldn't check in yet, so we went for breakfast and walked around the nearby park. After we checked into the hostel, we took a walk down to the main area, saw the Sao Roque Church and did a walking tour of the area. Then we shopped a little, but I didn't buy anything. Later that ... read more

Well, another weekend come and gone and another country visited! After an 8 hour bus ride from Madrid we arrived at 6am on Friday in the beautiful city of Lisbon. We took in the sites of the city in the wee hours of the morning, went shopping, and returned to our hostel for a siesta. We went to the castle and then had an early dinner because Friday night we decided to go to a Fado show. A Fado is a traditional song with cantante, Portugese guitar and classical guitar, it was very relaxing and fun! Afterwards we were going to go out but ending up falling asleep...which is also what happened on Saturday night. Satuday we decided to go to Sintra, a little town 45 min. outside Lisobon. It felt like summer with all the ... read more

Beginning of February I had to go to Lisbon on a business trip. I always try to plan my meetings at the end of the week so i can stay the weekend extra to go sightseeing or visit friends. Since it was a trip for work I was alone and Peter didn't come along with me. Kermit did and i showed him parts of the city of Lisbon! Thursday 2nd of February I arrived in the afternoon and headed to my hotel which was right in the center in the Chiado area. It was a very nice and comfortable hotel but unfortunatelly they didn't have any internet connection, so there wasn't much i could do online. Maybe on one hand good since i was forced to leave my hotel room and go do things. Since my ... read more

'Ola! This blog recounts my trip to Portugal last month, my first journey to the continent and a much-needed escape from the drudgery of London in mid-winter. Back in December, Kate (genius friend who masterminded the trip to Scotland) suggested we take advantage of the new year seat sales that the discount carriers (Ryan Air, Easy Jet, etc) put on in January to lure desperate, pale-skinned and swollen Londoners away from their few quid remaining from the excesses of Christmas. And frankly, a trip to the continent is far less expensive than the consequences of the new year sales here in London, where one could find themselves in a total frenzy of bargain heaven. This is a lesson I learnt early upon my arrival in London - I am still recovering from the cost of having ... read more

When Barbara left back to the cold Czech republic, I went back north, to Porto for a couple of days, by myself. PORTO - PORT WINE TASTING After a long fast walk up and down the narrow hilly streets of Porto I presented myself in a famous port winery with the statue and aura of an ambassador to the region. I had a very long walk, in the brisk cold air, and was in a frisky mood for a drink. The woman behind the counter, late 20's I supposes, was corporately polite and promptly barraged me with an endless amount of information about the winery, their rich heritage and their magnificent product. I was the only visitor, that early afternoon, and it looked like we both welcomed the change. -"...superior quality, with toasted aromas...possess extraordinary ... read more

Before I start, I have to ask you a very important question that has been bugging me for a while now: "If R2D2 is such a smart robot, how come he has to whistle all the time. Why couldn't they teach this ugly sliding cylindrical box some fucken English? Or Spanish, since he looks like some mail-ordered-trash-can out of a discount janitorial supply catalog?" OK this will conclude the venting portion of this e mail - and if any of you took offense to my racial remark, admit this - it was good line, and then - Grow up! Now I want to write something nice. PAULA & CARLOS Barbara and I spent the Christmas, New Year's Eve, and more, as Paula and Carlos guests - staying at their great 200 years old vaulted ceiling loft ... read more
