Pozdravljeni!

A fluent Portuguese speaker, knows all the best shopping spots, fearless van driver and knowable guide of the historic sights. What more could we ask? Oh… and she just happens to be A’s sister! We were finally in Portugal and very excited for several reasons. Most importantly we would be able to see Aunt Linda ,Uncle Ron and the girls. They have been living in Portugal for 15 years as missionaries in Lisbon. However, we didn’t exactly have a smooth start to our visit. It happened again, a flight with a technical problem caused a long delay…this time we knew our family members were waiting and waiting at the wee hours of the morning. Surprise….your brother, sister in-law and kids are here for their visit now , only problem, we got to Lisbon around 3:00am. The ... read more

I was desperate for bleach white walls, fresh sun dried clothes hanging from taunt lines, outside windows decorated with red flowers. Welcome to Lagos, in fact, welcome to all of Europe along the Mediterranean coast. Lagos, a historic port, 3 hours from Seville, Spain is a combination of quaint fishing lifestyle and a booming tourist trap. I found my way to Lagos , Portugal, for some much deserved solitude. It has been a two and a half months since leaving the country I know and exploring the “open minded Europe”, and I had to recoporate from the previous two weeks.... I am constantly trying new ways of transportation that is cheap and somewhat comfortable, but for the most part, I am really flexible and my standards have dropped a few degrees below diva…. I started ... read more

So me, Cutes, Vix, Dania, Renee & Heather went to Albufeira, Portugal where is was hot, beautiful and fun!!! I'd never been to Portugal before, but it nice to go to where Dania was from (well, she's from Lisbon)... and to eat nice fresh sardines everyday, and I mean everyday!!! Anyway we spent 25% of the time on the beach relaxing and soaking up the sun... We spent 40% at the clubs dancing the night away and having more fun... and the other 35% was spent going around town and doing safari's and sightseeing! The funniest thing on holiday was seeing Leyla's photo on a board advertising hair designs! We couldn't believe it!!! She lives in New York and were in Portugal!!! All an all it was a great holiday with great people and we even ... read more

There have been a thousand cool things that have happened. Weve had a few miss haps with the van. Bumper fell off, window wipers blew up. We over heated 5 tims in one day going over the alps. The starter motor went on me for a few days and the re vision mirror fell of. Aart from that shes still held togther with Duck tape and running fine. All of the above have been fixed or ... read more

Well i have made it to southern Portugal. Its a lot more touristy down here, i mean its the beach and a nice one as well although very small. However the water is crystal blue..its amazing. I spent a night in Lisboa, the capital and largest city, but i hate to say it, its trash in my opinion. I got offered to buy drugs 3 times, and to some of you i guess thats 2 times too many. But i just didnt feel very safe there....oh and the hostel smelled like steamed cauliflower.... read more

We took a night bus from Algeciras to Sevilla to Lisbon. When we got here this morning at 6am we were pretty beat so we had a cabbie take us to a "cheap hotel close to the city center" which is exactly what he did. The place looke depressing but we didn´t care much. We hopped in the beds right away and slept for 3 hours, got up took our showers, and we left feeling refreshed. Unlike the place in Algeciras, Hotel Mar, which I would highly recomend, I wouldn´t exactly recomend this place, Hotel Londres. Lisbon is not as developed as Spain and the buildings are dirty and covered in graffiti. I was not impressed, I guess I ecpected more from a capital city. We walked down to the river bank and got some breakfast ... read more

I'm now back in Lisbon. it's still the same, you go around for so long and is good to get back home, yadayadayada... Well, lisbon is pretty much the same as i left it a few years ago. Some extra subway stations. beer is still cheap. Specially after coming from london or amsterdam or barcelona..... :D nice weather. the movies are still subtitled (i hate dubbed stuff). the beer is cheap, and they know how to pour it. bars open till dawn. and they serve cheap beer. i guess i said this before. hmmm..... well, anyway, apart from a few towns in europe, amsterdam being a spotlight, to be able to go out and have a few drinks with some friends, lisbon is still my spot. i mean, london? clubs closing at 2? rome? a few ... read more

Leaving Granada after having arrived less than 48 hours before, we were on a bus for a 12 hour ride to Portugal! To make the trip longer, the Spanish law states that bus drivers must stop at least every 3 hours to keep them from falling asleep, sooooo, we were on and off the bus all day long. Finally we were there by evening where we had dinner, and fell into bed. Laura, Natalie and I still hadn´t caught up on sleep and had a tour to catch at 8 the next morning so we crashed! The next day our Irish tour guide, Michelle, took us to Lisbon (we were staying at Costa da Caparica, a beach town outside of Lisbon), and we saw the Monastery of San Jeronimo, the Discoverers Monument and the Tower of ... read more
