Now that we are overwintering in Lagos, Portugal we have decided to take advantage of the time and do some overland traveling. We choose to use public transportation for our travels to both Oporto (more commonly referred to as Porto) and to Lisboa (Lisbon). Conveniently the bus station is very close to the marina in Lagos and took us to Porto with only a half-hour layover in Lisbon on the way north. This was a great way to see some of the interior of the country as we traveled past fields of corn, rice, orchards of olive trees, cork trees and vineyards. We past open pit gravel mines, a large number of modern wind turbines and rolling hills covered with trees and scrub. Pigs, sheep and goats were grazing among the many orchards and many hills ... read more

We had very low expectations of our RyanAir flight to Porto. We'd heard horror stories about being charged obscene amounts for the tiniest indiscretions (not printing off your own boarding passes before arriving at the airport, your bags being accepted at one airport but rejected at another etc) and about the mad scramble to get a seat (seats are not allocated on RyanAir flights). We'd prepared for the worst, throwing away all non-essential toiletries and a whole bunch of our 'working' clothes to make sure we were under the baggage limit. We'd even heard horrible things about the length of their queues so we'd made sure we arrived at the airport with plenty of time. As has been the running theme of this trip, we'd worried ourselves for nothing. Even though the airport was completely obscure ... read more

No sábado, dia 1 mapeamos, locais de interesse ... read more

Porto is a busy industrial and commercial center. The city itself isn't very populous (about 240,000 inhabitants), but the Porto metropolitan area (Greater Porto) has some 1,500,000 inhabitants in a 50 km radius, with cities like Gaia, Matosinhos, Maia, Gondomar, and Espinho. The city was built along the hills overlooking the Douro river estuary, and its historical center was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1996. It has been continuously inhabited since at least the 4th Century, when the Romans referred to it as Portus Calle Porto has a semi-Mediterranean climate, although it's strongly affected by the Atlantic ocean, which makes it cooler than other cities with this climate. However, temperatures can rise as high as 40ºC in August during occasional heat waves. Winters are mild and humid, with occasional cold nights where temperatures can ... read more

-Hey, my name is Danni, mutatkozott be a lakótársunk. –Nice to meet you, this is Annamaria and Susi. Where you been traveling so far, érdeklődtünk a srác Portó előtti utazásáról. –A Caminót jártam végig Franciaországtól, ma érkeztem ide, végre egy helyben lehetek pár napig, anélkül, hogy gyalogolnom kéne újabb 40km-t. Durva élmény volt, május óta úton vagyok, az első pár napban feltörte a cipő a lábamat, ami jócskán lelassította a tempómat, de utána hozzászoktam. Két póló és két nadrág a ruhatáram. Kaját 10€-ért biztosítottak a szállásokon, teljesen jó, bort is adtak hozzá. Főztek rá... read more

We were booked into a family Hotel in Lamego. The Tom Tom took us to the middle of town. We asked a Lady where the Hotel would be and a whole lot of people came out, that we made clear no Portugese made no difference she just continued. But the way she waved her hands towards the mountains,it did not look that well. A man dressed in suit and tie was watching and told in English he knew. He was with two cars with a lot of women with one girl dressed in a long cream dress. It looked like a first Communien. He argued with the women folk went in one car and told us to follow him. He went out of town up the mountain, through hobble stone lanes, with stone walls on each ... read more

After Faro, and Lisbon, we decided to go to Porto, an amazing old city, you just can't be in a street and don't see something beautiful! It's 3h from Lisbon, and the bus from there cost 15€. Between Faro, Lisbon, and Porto, it's for good Porto who's the cheaper. Especially for the restaurants, you can eat around everywhere for 4 - 5€ first course and course. They sell a speciality in Porto called francesinha, it's a sandwich but with a lot of meat inside and covered with melted cheese, in a lot of tomato-beer sauce, with fries. I swear you're not hungry anymore after this! It cost around 4€ it's really cheap! Most of the streets are cobblestone streets. The buildings are not all very clean, but its gorgeous, everywhere you have something to see, a ... read more
