It was an Austrian run cafe with many magazines and books, quite a few in German. Max noted a German men's magazine on the rack. I suppose something akin to Maxim. I couldn't read the cover, but I took his word for it.

This tram-like vehicle, called a funicular, took us up a steep slope from Praça dos Restauradores to the Bairro Alto neighborhood. Our destination was Solar do Vinho do Porto, or the Port Wine Institute.

We each tried to sample something different. In this picture, I believe I was sampling a 2001 Ramos Pinto Reserve Late Bottled Vintage. It had a complex flavor with a hint of sweetness. I ended up buying a bottle of it at the duty-free shop before flying out of Lisbon. The other glass was a La Rosa 2000 LBV. Not as complex and refined, but still pleasant

Hi Dan, I loved these pictures. I have read Max's journal and these pictures make it all come out so alive! I am impressed at the hardwork you must have put in order to add all these captions to these pictures. Thanks Gurvinder
