Bom dia a Portugal e uma boa Pasqua (good day from Portugal and happy Easter. Today is a hot, glorious, sit around the pool and drink wine and port kind of day. It’s very warm here today, about 23 degrees and, because pretty well everything is closed for Easter Sunday, this is exactly what we’re doing (except for Molly Maid, Renita, who insists on washing the floors). After breakfast, the girls went to the church in Alfeizerea for the Easter service. Pete & I walked into town where we found our usual coffee shop open for business. I sent off a couple of blogs and we were able to catch up on other stuff on the internet. We also had coffee while we waited. The girls soon showed up and Jo taught us how to say ... read more

Saturday 9.1.2010 Day 86 Portugal dinner out We did some work on the internet book some more accommodation had to decide what we are doing in the next few weeks as there is so much snow about we think we will stay away from it for a bit longer. We had some drinks at the bar and had a bit of a rest day today. Then after being well rested we went out for dinner for my friend’s birthday at this great Portugal seafood restaurant over the ocean while we were there we got to see the tied rise to almost under where we sat if we had of stay an hour more it would have went under us. We had a fantastic local dinner and sangria. It was good to have a splash out. ... read more

Friday 8.1.2010 Day 85 Portugal We did our washing and went for a walk to a fort along the cliffs it was a fantastic view (we forgot the camera) but we could not get to the fort by the cliffs so we went back and got the car it was not a very good fort and had been turned in hotel maybe by the government as they do that here some times. There is a bull fighting ring walking distance to our resort and on all our drives we see them in every town the size seem to be in proportion to the size of the town. None of the locals I have spoken to say they are in to it they all say they are in to football but someone must be going I am ... read more

Oh, the sun, the golden cliffs, and the golden sand of Albufeira - what a contrast to Ireland. We REALLY enjoyed the sun and the warm weather, but not the cold Atlantic waters. Albufeira is a quaint seaside village where the lifeguards wear bright yellow T-shirts that say, "Matador Salvador" (Lifeguard), where people spend the entire day lazing at the beach, and then party until the wee hours of the morning. Since I've written about Albufeira in the past, I'll concentrate on the very unique sand sculpture festival that we visited on my birthday. These were definitely the largest and most elaborate sand sculptures that we've ever seen. The festival theme was, "The Inventions of Mankind". It covered a variety of topics and historical periods. Funky jazz music was playing from concealed speakers which added a ... read more

Hi Guys! Well I know it's been a while since my last update so i'll try and make this one reasonably informative. In terms of what i've been up to, my job is still going really well and Nina and I are enjoying the fine weather. It's so nice being able to spend our days with friends in the Parks or Zoo rather than being stuck inside indoor playgrounds whilst it's pouring with rain! My flat is going really well and when we are together we generally have a few drinks but most of the time Annette and I are out and about in the area having drinks and BBQs with friends. I am playing Netball as well and we have another good team which always makes it lots of fun. Recently Annette and I went ... read more

April 13, 2008 We left leaving Portimao this morning, so it was breakfast and onto the bus for an hour until we arrived in Albufeira, an Arabic influenced town. We were given 5 hours here, so we headed to the beach. Now since we, especially me, were a little colored from the day of tanning before, we lathered up our sunscreen before laying out. We didn’t have much to do, so again walks happened. After awhile on the beach, I decided I needed to flip over, so the clothes went on so I wouldn’t get even more burned! Julie, Katie, and I had spent enough time on the beach, and decided we wanted to walk around. So we got all of our stuff together and went shopping. While we were walking around we stopped at a ... read more

English At the moment we are taking a day off from biking, and we are staying in a small town called Alvor next to the city Portimao. We have been traveling for about a week, we left from Punta Umbria which is a small beach town in Spain where Rocio's sister lives) and now we are in Portugal. We've mostly been traveling along the side of the highway. So far we´ve mostly been camping, althouhg one night was spent on the beach and another in a hotel. We've been travleing about 40 kilometers a day, and we usually travle between 12 in the afternoon and 7 in the evening. There have been showers everywhere we´ve slept. So far we've been able to understand Portuguese pretty well (if people talk slowly). The best parts of the day ... read more
