Well folks, you ain’t gonna believe this. There’s yet one more entry for the blog. This one is from Renita, written on Saturday, April 24th. Hey guess what, we’re still here. Got to the airport and there was a screw up with Air Portugal for our ticket to Frankfurt. Jo got away OK, but thinking she would see us in Frankfurt. Air Canada has now booked us on Lufthansa, bypassing Air Portugal all together, but the flight is only for tomorrow. We are back at the VIP Madrid, they can´t get rid of us. Got a free breakfast today when we arrived back here, they must be feeling sorry for us. ... read more

As you might know, Renita, Jocelyne and I have been stuck in Lisbon Portugal for the last five days, we're trying to make the best of it but my back has been killing me in the last 4 days so it's hard to enjoy the extra time we have here. Flights are finally leaving Frankfurt so maybe we'll be able to leave this Saturday without too much hassle since we are waiting for the crowds to clear the airport before we try and leave. We've been here long enough, it's been over a month and we're ready to go home. After our flights got cancelled and because they couldn't guaranty our rooms for the nex t five days, we left the Radisson which we had chosen for it's close proximity to the airport and went back ... read more

After breakfast we walked to the Grand mall where we all caught up on our e-mail and it’s just our luck that they have free Wi-Fi - and did a little shopping. The afternoon was spent sight seeing around the town. Appropriately, Tavira is known as the Little Venice of Portugal and rightly so, it’s very beautiful. There are a multiple of bridges that span the Rio Gilao river which runs through the town, two are strictly for pedestrians, one being the Roman Bridge dating back to 1657. On our walk we visited the Church of Misericordia, from 1541, it has beautiful blue tiled walls inside showing you how to lead a good Christian life. No pictures taking were allowed here. Beside the church are the remains of the Palace of the Gallery, a 17th ... read more

Today we left for Tavira without ever having met the owners of the villa we rented in Albufeira. They were due to meet us on the first day we arrived but never showed up and neither did they bid us farewell, funny way of doing business, luckily we hadn’t given them the deposit they had requested. The taxi was right on time but the driver nearly got a hernia trying to lift Jocelyne’s suitcase into the back of the cab but all’s well that ends well and off we went to the bus station. We took what was supposed to be a direct bus route to Faro but it made so many stops that I lost track of how many times it did. Finally, upon arriving in Faro we got off the bus and after ... read more

Well, what do you know??? I had a brain flash and figured out how to import Pete's pictures afterall. Sometimes I just amaze myself. (sorry guys, still no nudes. You know Rrenita can be soooooo strict! Then there's Jo!!??!). Anyhow, here's the first entry. Today was Don and Cathy’s last day at the villa, it was sad to see them go but they had to get back home to get to work. On the other hand, we are lucky enough to move on to another place; tomorrow we (Joce, Renita and Myself) leave for Tavira, another one to look forward to. We'll tell you all about it as soon as we form an opinion. Today was a fairly quiet day, on our way to the beach we found a nice restaurant and had a fantastic lunch ... read more

Hi all. I've recreived the final entries from Pete, Renita and Jo. They're really tired but should be on their way home this week end (April 24th). I'm really hoping that they don't get as far as London or Frankfurt and then get stuck there. Keep your finger's crossed for them. I think all was finally forgiven , at least by Renita and Jo, because they finally found a shoe store and bought shoes. Pete, well, he wasn't so lucky. I'm going to forward their entries now that I've figured out how to transfer them from my home computer to my netbook where the blog resides. Unfortunately, Pete embedded his pictures into his e-mail instead of sending them as attachments so I can't import them into this software. Sorry. (don't worry guys, Pete didn't send any ... read more

We were all up early for breakfast this morning as Cath and I head back to Canada today. After breakfast our cab arrived and we were off to the bus terminal for our trip back to Lisbon. The trip was uneventful and we made it to our hotel without getting lost (imagine that). After we got registered we decided to go back down to the old town for dinner and some more touring. We found our way into the metro and headed out. The metro system in Lisbon is a wonderful system. It’s very modern, fast and clean. The security in the underground and on the train is very good so we felt very safe. The train is very fast and the pictoral maps make it quite easy to navigate. We even made it through a ... read more

Today is the day that Pete and I have been dreading .....,..... SHOPPING DAY! We knew what we were in for because the girls have been planning this day for the past 2 or 3 days now. However, we were in for a pleasant surprise because they told us we could split up and meet for lunch and then for the trip back to the villa (they must have heard us whining earlier). We walked up to the main road and caught a cab and we were off. An interesting thing about Portugilian cabs, they have a week end rate that is more expensive than the weekly rate. We drove to the old city, poked around a few shops together and then the girls turn us loose. As I have mentioned before, the old city at ... read more

Today was a rather unusual day. Instead of getting up and getting going we just laid around the pool and read our books. It’s windy and cooler this morning but still quite warm so we weren’t in any hurry. We tried to have an English breakfast (sausage, eggs, tomatoes, beans and toast) at a nearby restaurant but it was going to take too long so we had a Canadian breakfast at the Best Western Hotel (bacon, eggs, fruit and rolls). While at the hotel we were able to access their internet so we got off some blogs and e-mails. After breakfast Pete & Jo returned to the villa while Cath, Renita and I walked to the market to do another grocery shop for our last 2 days here. We got back to the villa, had a ... read more

Ola a Sesmarais. Como esta? E gratis? Nao? Quanta? (Hello from Seamarais. How are you? Is it free? No? Then how much is it?) As you can see we’ve been doing a lot of shopping and we’re getting pretty good at asking the essential questions (unless you’re into pilfering fruit from an overhanging tree, nothing is free). Sesmarais is the region that we are staying in and I’ve finally figured out how you would come to visit us. From the central bus station, or train station, tell your cab driver that you are going to Sesmarais however you don’t know where because none of the streets have names. Just tell him you want to go to the Dom Diniz Restaurant (it seems like everybody knows it). Turn right at the corner just before the Dom Diniz ... read more
