Hello my fellow travellers! Me and Joanna started the day with a steady breakfast of scrambled eggs and bread before she drove us to Gdynia. The first stop on our way was the Orłowski Cliff, which is a really beautiful cliff that are still being eroded by the sea by roughly one metre every year. It's located on the beautiful sandy beach in the Kępa Redłowska Nature Reserve which was founded in 1938, making it one of the oldest nature reserves in Poland. It was founded in order to preserve the natural beach forests and the Swedish Whitebeam trees that stand along the shores. We began by taking a walk up to the top of the cliff and then we walked across it in it's entirety and came down on the other side so that we ... read more

Traveling alone of great distance, I took a deep breath and enter the gates to board the Emirates flight bound for Dubai where my connecting flight to Larnaca awaits. After 2 days, I was off to Gdansk..... It was pure business this trip so pictures were very rare. Thanks to some new company policy, I was required to meet my counterparts in the company face to face to put some pictures over the names. But being bitten by the travel bug, I have a incurable disease of the need to see what is to be seen. After all, I was travelling for free. Only negative is that I'm travelling on my own....and I miss T n Z... Enjoy the pics :)... read more

The rain of yesterday had sorted of cleared but the sky was still overcast and the temperature remained cool leaving no other option but to stay in longs and sneakers. We took a look at the lagoon as we left to drive south towards two attractions today hoping that at least one would work for us before we drove north to our next stay for 2 nights in Gdynia, north of Gdansk(formerly known in East Prussian days as Danzig).Had we had more time we might have taken a walk to explore the area a bit more but we wanted to get on in case we found we had enough time to do both the things on our list today. First in our sights was the Elblag canal about 40 minutes down the road in a rural location. The ... read more

Afterwards I spent holiday together with Ania and Robert I decided to spend little time alone :-) I desired to visit my two friends whose live in Pomerania in north Poland, they invited too. Tomek lives in Gdańsk and Michał in Chojnice. I arrived at the morning of Wednesday 22th of September to Gdynia, a harbour in east part of Polish coast. Because I had a big advance - spare time before I met with Tomek - and I made up mind to see ORP Błyskawica in Gdynia. Nowadays ORP Błyskawica (Polish word "błyskawica" means lightning in English) is the oldest preserved destroyer in whole of the world. She was constructed in Cowes's shipyard (Isle of Wight - southern England) in 1936, in the next year she entried into the service in Polish Navy shortly before ... read more

Took a tour recommended by Ola - thank you Ola. The tour was excellent and our guide was wonderful. Konrad, apx. 75, was a child during Nazi occupation and a young man when the Russians occupied Poland so he has seen it all. He had some interesting stories to tell. First stop was Oliwa Cathedral where we got to hear beautiful organ music and look at the incredible wood carvings that surrounded the pipes. Then we drove by Lech Walesa’s house, which is pretty well hidden behind a fence and trees, but I was able to get a few pictures. Next we went sightseeing in Gdansk Old Town built in 997 A.D. with detailed talks about all the important buildings. This area was 80% destroyed at the start of WWII, but has been restored to its ... read more

E..'s nephew took us on a tour of Old Gdansk Town, Gdynia and Sopot. He had the day off, so he brought his daughter. His wife joined us later in Gdynia. Gdynia is a pretty little town with the requisite Catholic church in the town centre. This one had a big pipe organ that was being played expertly when we visited. We just sat on the pews and listened to the lovely music. After Gdynia, we went to the beach at Sopot. E.. has been on this beach as an infant and also in her young teens. We then had dinner in the form of waffles loaded with whipped creame, berries and powdered sugar. It's the berries that makes this a healthy meal.... read more

Who knew that Poland is world class in windsurfing? I spent the afternoon in the sun. I was suppose to bicycle to Hel (google 'Hel, Poland") and I tried for awhile. But it was more enjoyable sitting in the sun watching the surfers go by.... read more

I am staying with Servas friends, Ewa and Bogumil, in Gdynia. This morning Bogumil dropped Ewa and I off at Sepot, a Victorian beach town, so that we could walk along the beach back to Gdynia. I think we walked over 10 kms along the Baltic Sea. It is really warm here, plus sixteen in the afternoons. The beaches were relatively empty. Sepot reminded me of Brighton, but much more toned down. The pier was empty and calm, though Ewa told me that it has games and rides during the summer holidays. The best thing about Ewa and Boumil's house is the pets, three dogs and cats; reminds me of home. It was great walking the dogs in the park yesterday. A couple more days in this area and I will head for Warsaw. The weather ... read more
