Cruise day 11
Whales, whales everywhere and British night 25th July 2019
With no alarm set we still made it in time for breakfast and were joined by Andy and Mo. I really am surprised how many super people there are on this cruise so honourable mentions also to Richard, Sonya, Cathy, Pat, Clive, Veronica, Trevor and the Orca gang. There are more but, sorry, I don’t know your names! Our tribe are great and have really helped make the cruise so special.
Today has been a sea day as we head to Tromso and we have seen many whales and, the highlight, a dolphin leaping compeletely out of the water. I’ve seen a fin whale, a blue whale and many humpback whales so it’s been pretty special.
We haven’t always sat or stood outside as it is a bit bracing but the dolphins for example were spotted from the comfort of the observatory. Less than two minutes after Andy and Mo had left....
There is a photography competition on board for pictures taken on the cruise and you get a print of each picture you enter so probably worth the £1.98 to enter. The prize
isn’t much but we’ve both entered....as will Andy...let’s see how long our friendship lasts after this.....
We’ve even had breakfast, lunch AND dinner today and all at the specified times. The food has been fantastic including from the buffet part but it’s nice to be able to choose from a menu as well. My Dad would love all the different fish and seafood dishes in particular while Claire has let the whole world down by eating lots of mucky mushrooms. Dirty girl.
Have I mentioned the staff yet? Apparently Fred Olsen only recruit in India and the Philippines for service staff and 99% appear to be Philippino. They have all been fantastic, always smiling (even the mizzhog maitre d at times....), saying hello and doing anything for you. Mind you, even the captain says hello when he passes you although he might not after I slated him in my last blog!
It was British night tonight and the dress code was red, white and blue. Andy and Mo invited us to join them for dinner so we decided to have our third proper evening meal. I was determined to fit in with the predominantly older guests and
wore my red tartan bondage trousers....
We sat in a lounge first and the guitarist did a few bars of Anarchy in the UK which was nice. Sadly he didn’t know much and was scaring the old dears but it was a nice moment. I got some funny looks because of my trousers but who cares? I get those when I wear them going out at home!
The meal was all British and finished off with sticky toffee pudding which was exceptional. We sat and laughed whilst always keeping an eye out of the window for whales. Before we knew it two hours had passed and we had to move as the next sitting would be coming in soon.
The Daily Times says that there’s going to be a sunset tomorrow night which will be strange, we haven’t seen any darkness for about a week now! We arrive in Tromso in the morning so we decided to have an early night.
