so today was the last day of our road trip. we were supposed to leave at 7.30 but i slept in (whoops) and we didnt leave till about 7.50. it is about a 5hr drive from stuttgart to lingin where we had to drop the rental back off. on the way we stopped at Koln (Cologne) and had a look at the Chocolate factory museum (we hadn't realised earlier that it was there). it was interesting and smelled yummy. we of course purchased some chocolates. we got a special gift of chocolate false teeth for Auntie Margerth and a chocolate tool set for Uncle Albert. we got to lingin a bit earlier (30mins) than we thought as steve drove fast on auto-bahn. Uncle Albert came to picck us upwhich was really nice, otherwise it would have ... read more

'We will aim to leave by 8.30am' was Aunty Margareth's words last night and what time did I wake up??? 8.22am! Whoops! I think by the time every body had finally gotten up and was ready we were having our morning coffee at 10.30. We Skyped Mum and Dad Bangma and got a screen kiss from Jodie when she said goodnight! Today's main outting was to Bourtange. It was quite cool seeing the history of the Fortress and what has happened to it over the years. Bourtange is shaped like a big pentagonal star and over the years has had extensions added onto it. We went into a Jewish Synogoge, the Captain's house, the Museum where they have excavated items over the years and a short film about the history of Bourtange (Aunty Margareth and Uncle ... read more

so after a wonderful sleep at Auntie Margerths and Uncle Alberts they took us to fortress Bourtange and we had a look around at the fortress. they had restored it to what it was at its biggest. it was very cool. we spent most of the day there and had croquettes - real ones. We also visited the museum, captians quaters, synogauge, history film which was all very interesting. After being at bourtange we went back to Auntie Margerths and Uncle Alberts and had dinner. We then went round to Jan-William's and met his wife and children. that was very nice.... read more

6.30am came around with a rude awakening of a lovely lady telling us to get up and that we would be docking at about 8.20am! After being on of the last people to get off the boat and going through 'customs' we jumped onto the train to Rotterdam Central Train Station. We went and asked at the information stand about getting to Coevorden and the lady laughed at me because apparently my pronunciation was not very good! Got the instructions then went had to wait for an hour, we were getting hungry by then but not a single place in any train station seemed to accept credit cards (Steve thinks it is because the Dutchies will need to be charged a transaction fee and they can't have that!). Had a few dramas with disruptions on the ... read more

Our last day in Denmark was the best day ever in terms of weather. Bright blue skies and temps in low 70's. Drove north of Copenhagen about 10 miles to Rungsted, a small town on the coast, to the home/museum of Karen Blixen. Her life in Africa is portrayed in the movie Out of Africa. This is the house she grew up in and returned to after her time in Africa. Interesting information on her life and her work. Beautiful grounds which are now a bird sanctuary. From Rungsted we headed south through Denmark to catch the ferry to Germany (Puttsgarden) and then drove to Bremen for the night. Stayed again at our favorite campground in Bremen. It is located at the edge of a large forested park with a lake near the outskirts of the ... read more

Hello all, Today we had another boring day of travelling on autobahns. However I can now say that I have been in three different countries in one day - Belgium, Germany and Holland. We are back at Aunty Margareth's house, where we have been feed and watered. We emptied the car and now have the mission of trying to fit it all back into our suitcases. After our massive meal (I think Auntie Margareth was cooking for 18!) we went into town to the flea market. I couldn't convince Auntie Margareth to go on the carnival rides - so instead we went and visited my cousin Martin and his girlfriend, Lusette. We had a nice time there eating cake! For your photo's today we have decided to entertain you with some boy photos.... read more

Hi all from Schoonebeek. Here we sit at Uncle Albert’s & Auntie Margareth’s house. This morning was lovely weather so we went with Oom Arjen on his boat around the waters of Friesland. There were lots of sailing boats on the water as there was a large sailing race on. Jaz, you would love it here - so much water and heaps of sailing boats (Daniel’s got heaps of pictures for you). We were out on the water for a couple of hours and had a great time. We saw quite a few house boats (like an actual house on a boat - see the picture). After we came back Tante Anna had a yummy hot lunch for us and then we went out into the town (as Tante Anna was entertaining 19 guests from church). ... read more
