'We will aim to leave by 8.30am' was Aunty Margareth's words last night and what time did I wake up??? 8.22am! Whoops! I think by the time every body had finally gotten up and was ready we were having our morning coffee at 10.30. We Skyped Mum and Dad Bangma and got a screen kiss from Jodie when she said goodnight! Today's main outting was to Bourtange. It was quite cool seeing the history of the Fortress and what has happened to it over the years. Bourtange is shaped like a big pentagonal star and over the years has had extensions added onto it. We went into a Jewish Synogoge, the Captain's house, the Museum where they have excavated items over the years and a short film about the history of Bourtange (Aunty Margareth and Uncle Albert sat in the back seat... Don't worry Steve acted as chouffer (????)! We went to the restaurant and Nicole, Steve and I had yummy '2 Krokketen v/h brood' (2 croquettes and bread with mustard) – Aunty Margareth and Uncle Albert kindly paid for our lunch as much as Steve tried to pay... Stubborn Dutchies (Sorry Aunty Margareth and Uncle Albert!) vs Stubborn Scottish!

our trip to Bourtange we went home via a windmill because I was desperate to see a real life windmill! When we got home Steve and Nicole walked down to the post shop and money machine while I helped Aunty Margareth with dinner (she is making us feel very at home with yummy 'Mum' meals.
When we had had our dinner we went around to Jan-William and Nicolette's house (My 3rd eldest cousin and his wife) and we got to meet their 3 children, Ivar, Imar and Mara (sorry if I didn't spell them right!). Ivar is definitely the shy one, Imar is definitely the confident one and talked from when we got there until she went to bed, and Mara is very cute! It was a nice time seeing my cousin again, the last time her was in New Zealand he was 17 and I was 8. I remember Jan-William being extremely tall but it seems that is not the case any more... apparently I have grown (you will see in the photo) but I think he will still be tall standing next to Rebecca (hehe). Imar was dying to show us her room so we got a house

Lunch
tour of all the rooms! We visisted them for about 2 hours then headed home and Aunty Margareth cranked out the beer, wine, chips and peanuts (we must be special!!!)!
Well that's all for today,
Love,
Danielle
xx
P.S. Hope all our Christchurch friends and family are safe and enjoying the snow!
