Getting bored He we are again another day in the mountains today we plan to do a bit of gorge walking in the second biggest canyon in the world. The Tara canyon, but first a drive over the bridge. This is a very impressive bridge called the Durdevica tara Bridge. Then we parked the car and set off for a walk the other side of the bridge where there was a sign for whitewater rafting but after twenty minutes walking we just came across a deserted camp and the end of the path, plus we were still around a 1000 feet from the river below. Back at the car we decide to drive along the gorge to a town called Mojkovac. Discribed in the travel guide as an old polluted mining town. It Also mentions quiet ... read more

Royston Vasey To our surprise the place didn't seem any better in a different light of day so Tess decided we should leave them here locals and move out before we were made into the next mixed grill. Baggsey me Tess' kidney. So we checked out and started hunting for a new apartment. So after we settled our bill which took all our Euro as they don't take credit cards even though they display a vast range on there door that they take. we headed of to the bank to cash in our traveler cheques. If you decide to ever come to Montenegro, especially Zabljak just bring cash as they don't change traveler cheques. Not even the post office. Nor do any of the hotels we asked so off to the hole in the wall. Hope ... read more

Its too hot Well I never. Or I don't believe it, we are moving on today into the mountains and its hot bright and sunny out, only problem is we are leaving today and heading for the hills. Would you believe that after driving round for 90 minutes we were still in Kotor looking for the road out to Podgorica we had been miles in one direction then back again and the road works didn't help. In the end I came up with the idea of taking the Budva road then to Cetinje which if you look at a map is a little like going from Leicester to Birmingham then to Stoke on Trent, just to get to Nottingham. But never mind, we got here in the end, in spite of numerous roadwork's, shortage of roadsigns, ... read more

Guess what! Yes its raining again. But this isn't going to dampen our spirits, so after breakfast we start our journey of driving round the bay. "Hope the roads are better the other side." The roads were flooded as we drove through Koto it hard to believe they started building this place around 800 BC but never got round to building drains We drove round to Perast, which is a very pretty coastal village. And has some very interesting architecture. The whole area has plenty of architecturaly interesting buildings Once there we headed for the museum for a little insght of the area but came away non the wiser and headed for lunch. A small restaurant with seating on a pier leading out into the sea. Will finish this one too... read more

Saturated Souls II The weather today looks a little more promising so we decided to make another attempted to climb Kotor's wall after yesterday's attempt was rained off. We started this climb with a rucksack full of high hopes and even higher optimism, and ended up with a rucksack full of water. Very reminiscent of Hadrians wall. It is a good climb to the top. 1020 feet roughly. Zig zaging up the side of the mountain for what seems an eternity It is a good climb to the top but the views of Kotor and the bay with the incumbent mountains holding the sea and surrounding buildings gingerly like a pair of hands carrying a unfortunate goldfish to safety. But with a big storm cloud overhead. Well that me trying to add a litle culture to ... read more

Saturated Souls After a good night sleep we wake up to what is reminiscent of the weather in old blighty. Cloudy and overcast, but we have breakfast and put our lives in the hands of the gods and drive to Kotor. We had been in Kotor for no more than an hour when we were enticed into the Citadella roof top restaurant for pizza' due to the yummy smell coming from there. The Citadella Hotel has a great roof top restaurant that is well worth a visit if only for the views. But a cool beer and pizza makes the venture all the more pleasurable. Not that a cool beer is needed, more like a hot chocolate. After our lunch we decided to head for them hills' and tackle the fortress wall. On the way to ... read more

Here we are at last. After a short stint on the plane we arrive in Croatia and drive the fifteen minutes to the border, to what use to be until a short while ago the planets newest country. This will be my fifth journal. Three of them along the Adriatic. Croatia. Slovenia and now Montenegro. I use write them for my own pleasure something to read back on in years to come. But hey I thought. I could put them on a travelblog site so others could read and hopefully get a little useful information from it. The weather here is just right and the scenery is breathtaking and is akin to the Alps. It is almost tempting to go mountain biking but I wouldn't know where to start. The mountains are a bit to steep ... read more

Well here we are again with just a few days before we start our journey. The weather outside is rainy. Hope that’s not a Prelude of things to come. It’s been a while since we have been away apart from Bruges and walking the ‘Hadrian’s wall. Last year, We have almost packed our bags. Our passports are at hand and we are all set for another exciting journey this time to Montenegro. Tess has done really well in planning all this as they don't seem to be that geared up on the tourist trade at the moment. But that should make it a nicer holiday. We will be having the usual three centre holiday. ‘First in the mountains staying at Prcanj; We will then be travelling round. ... read more

Leonardo Di Caprio is lost on the backpacker trail in Bangkok when he hears word of a magical Beach located off the Southern coast of Thailand. Like most backpackers without a plan would, he follows this secret advice and is justly rewarded for his search. And though he narrowly escapes death, gets chased by a shark, is exiled from the hippy commune and is driven mad, it makes for a good story. Such were our hopes when we heard word of beautiful fjord and medieval town located 3 hours bus journey away from Dubrovnik in the newly established Republic of Montenegro. The advice given by a fellow traveller, was equally as cryptic as the map given to Leo by the heroine junky, ‘Daffy’, in The Beach. We were to take an early morning bus into ... read more

Hello all, Montenegro is a true gem. There is nothing I can say that would do it justice. I was and am completely enamored with this lovely little country and all the people we met while we were there. From coast to Fjords, to churches sin the middle of the ocean and incredible hiking to old abandoned castles and up any mountain you see! Oh, and did I mention, there was a perfect old town, and sunsets that are so incredible you can't even bring yourself to blink... For us, it started when John and I, against our better judgment and all the promises we seemed to make each time we have this lapse in judgment, took an overnight bus to this beautiful costal city. Now, it was not one of the worst overnight bus trips ... read more
