It's sadly our last full day in Malta today, as we're flying back at 12.30pm tomorrow, so that will not leave any time for us to do anything other than get to the airport. My wife wanted to relax by the pool today. I wanted to go to Marsaxlokk, which is a small fishing village that I had read about. I caught a bus and was there in about half an hour, most of which was spent with the bus fighting its way through narrow streets again. I feel sorry for the bus drivers here, as the cars, both those parked and the ones driving don’t make it any easier. And that reminds me, one thing I don't like about the Maltese is their manners. I'm going to stop standing to one side to wait for ... read more

We discovered there is a cave here that Archaeologists have found life existed 5,200 BC. And we were just nearby yesterday!! So back we went today to Ghar Dalam where during the Iceage natural Land Bridges formed between Malta & Sicily when the sea levels dropped during this period. Giving escape for many animals whose habitats further North had frozen. Malta had a Rain Age instead of an Ice Age. Many archaeological diggings unearthed huge Elephant, Hippopotamus, Deer, Wolves etc of various ages & sizes as they adapted to the ecological changes over the Pleistocene period. A fascinating display & we ventured down into the caves which displayed the layers of the periods & some stalagmites/stalagtites. One of the oldest places in history we have visited. Some of the findings came from 180,000 - 130,000 years ... read more

A choice to go to Marsaxlokk fishing village today before we run out of days. Bus via Valletta then another to the coast. Good start with hardly any stops so just over an hour to get there. We disembarked early to walk the shoreline & the point before Marsaxlokk itself. An enormous Container Port across the Bay. On our side it was all set up for swimming. Although no one was swimming...all the sensible people were still inside. 9am 30° & 89% humidity!!! Marsaxlokk was gorgeous as expected. Markets & Restaurants starting to setup. Souvieners duluxe. Not many out fishing today...alot of boats in harbour. Just a cruisy day. Working out the buses & where to catch them is a feat in itself! Midday back home humidity dropped down to 74%...how nice of it!!! off to ... read more

A fishing village on the south east of the island. Another couple of buses...& yes they were still having problems. We made it around midday. The drive through town centres in the middle of the island provided an insight to the real island life away from the tourist areas. Dry fields marked out with stacked limestone rocks, olive trees, grapes, fig trees. Very dry & quite red soil. Beautiful sunny day by the water that we needed to seek shelter under the market umbrellas. Many tourists still coming in 'on tour' & the seaside restaurants were doing well selling local produce from the sea. The local fishing boats called 'luzzu' all dotted around the bay making the harbour picturesque in colour. Marsaxlokk name comes from marsa, which means "port" and xlokk, which is the local name ... read more

Today we’ve booked to go to the Hypogeum of Hal-Saflieni archaeological site, a few kilometres south of Valletta. We made the booking several months ago to be sure we could get in, which apparently was far from guaranteed; it seems they only allow a maximum of eighty people in each day in strictly controlled groups of no more than ten. It seems to be a bit cooler today, with some clouds and a gentle breeze. Our taxi driver says that it's been the hottest summer he can remember - some days of 45 degrees outside, which usually translates to 50 in his cabin. He says that days like that are very bad for business, as even the tourists don't go outside. There's apparently full employment in Malta and they need to import workers from other parts ... read more

Marsaxlokk is an acient fishing village which is located at the head of Marsaxlokk Bay. Old low-rise houses occupy along the whole waterfront, and a fleet of brightly coloured luzzu (Maltese fishing boats) crowds the habour. Not surprisingly, this place is renowned for its top-notch seafood restaurants. The most interesting thing here is the Sunday Fish Market. As the name suggests, the fish market only opens on Sunday, and yet in the morning until 12pm. How lazy they are! So, I needed to set aside some time for a visit. Finally I spent the whole morning in Marsaxlokk today. When I first got there, what I saw is a series of stalls on both sides of the main road selling daily accessories, toys, decoration.....When I continued walking, I can see the fish market. There are a ... read more

!@!WARNING!@!
