Malta 29th August - 2nd Sept, 2009 London to Malta to Gozo Always seems like a good idea to book an early morning flight until we realised that we had to get up at 4.30am. It was the August bank holiday weekend and we were off to Malta. It was a 3 hour flight which we almost missed - when we got to the gate they were already boarding! We hired a car from Malta airport and drove down to the car ferry which goes across to Gozo. It took us a little while to find St. Joseph's Hostel which wasn't too far from the ferry terminal. Having been here three weeks we can honestly say it was an inspired idea....we are achieving all our corporate objectives. 1) Relax, 2) Get a tan, 3) Relax.....some of us are doing better than others in achieving these goals! Sharron has a great tan and has slipped into a coma!! We took a short break from the above last week when we visited Malta which took, door to door, the same time as our flight here, mainly due to using local bus transport! However we managed to arrive without any hotel reservation into Valletta to find the four hotels it has were running a VERY good occupancy precentage (happens everywhere I go!) we managed to get the last bedroom in Valletta at the 2 star Grand Harbour Hotel...all in all a basic, clean hotel in ... read more

Well we finally made it to the island of Gozo just off Malta...infact we have been here almost a week so I thought I hade better update the blog... Firstly thank you to everyone for the splendid send off, the cards, gifts and kind words meant a huge amount to both of us, to have the support and good wishes of so many people help to confirm this is the best thing we have ever done / will ever do!!! The farmhouse we have rented is just outside the town of Xhagra (pronounced sharah), it overlooks the beach (1/2 hr walk) and has a great pool and terrace...We have only had one small disaster so far, when we managed to lock ourselves out going to bed!! Gozo is one of the three islands that make up Malta as in: "Malta" - although Malta is mainly the central and the biggest one - slightly confusing isn't it . We went to Gozo on the ferry, which was very cheap and takes only about 30 mins - which really isn't a long journey. Gozo itself was beautiful! Very similar to the Maltese character, with lots of tiny cute markets and again loads of religious symbols pretty much everywhere. Some of the main attractions we visited included the Gozo Castle and of course the very famous Dwejra window - oh it was purely amazing! ... read more
