The amazing race begins. We started our 4 day whirlwind in Florence. Mai/Frank, Christine/Tom, Kim/Michael and Kyle and I met our guide and he drove us from the port through Tuscany to Florence. We started the day at a great overlook and history lesson. From there we went into town and the shopping began. Florence is a great place to shop and I promised I was going to wait to buy my leather backpack but the first store we went into had the perfect bag for me. The fashions in the windows had me drooling. Kyle should be very thankful that I wouldn’t be able to fit into anything those stores had because I saw the most wonderful clothes and especially leather jackets. Oh! My! We saw some fantastic buildings too. The line was too long to see the David but we did see the replica in the square. Which is where someone attempted to pick pocket me. I had been wearing my purse in the front of me but as I was walking it wiggled around to the back. I didn’t feel them unzip it but my purse it really skinny and the money bag was pretty far down into
the purse. I felt the hand go in and I turned around to see a pretty young gal (dressed as a tourist) quickly looked away. I just said hey and grabbed my purse. It all happened so fast. Kyle also had his backpack un zipped twice and he finally moved it around in front of him. There were such huge crowds it was easy to see how it could happen but we were either lucky or aware of our surroundings and came out of the events with our money and phones. Oh and all our goodies that I bought. This is a shopping town!!! We met our group for lunch. We didn’t know that it cost 4 euros just to eat outside. The food was just ok. A few sizes smaller and I will go back. We had fun but it was on to Pisa. Pisa took my breath away. It just stands there looming over you. I’ve seen so many pictures but until you see it live it just doesn’t hit you. Of course crowds everywhere but we managed to get the one picture that you have to get at pisa… The better picture was the one I got
of everyone looking like they are doing tai chi when they are all posing for the cameras. Florence was nice and I’m glad we went but it isn’t one of the top spots to return to.
The ships entertainment hasn’t really held our attention too much neither has the casino (I know you don’t believe that) We’ve just been exhausted. Over 12,000 steps a day combined with the sun has made us feel old like maybe we need to be taking naps or something. So the next day we race through Rome. Today 13,445 steps.

Florence
Florence is one of my favorite places in Italy. If you go back, definitely go shopping, and sample some of the most delicious gelato you'll ever eat. The "riso" flavor is especially delicious! The Uffizi galleries are phenomenal as well. Of course, one must make a trip to Fiesole, the hill town just above Florence where the air is cooler, and the view phenomenal. I'm so glad you're enjoying your trip so much. I love reading these updates of what you're up to!
