24-27 june I sit and watch venice float away in the train window. Its just amazing I could vacation there, its just great. I meat some truly great people and had a great time. First day I found a fellow star wars sci fi george lucas freak and found the indiana jones Church and other sights from the movie Note the inside is nothing like the movie The last crusade:-( ( I wanted to stand where x marks the spot). We had a great time. We saw many other sights including the plaza del marco and the Bridge of sighs. and the wonderful city of water. I truly wish I had a boat to explore my way around there I would have been in heavan. For thoues of you that heard of the bad smell... it ... read more

The first time I have had the whole house to myself and I can not decide if I have just sentenced myself to a several hour task of writing and uploading pictures or if the thunderstorm outside and my fatigue from the week will set in and I will "finish later"...... Last you left me I was birthdayed and moved but I never really finished my Milan stories. There is not a huge amount to discuss. Favorite moments from Milan camp: three of our worst behaved boys dancing like broadway tappers with stick "canes" as molly, abi, and I sing showtunes to them. Everything our director Silvana did (we bought her a mini keg for our thank you present....nuf said?) Watching my 10 and 11 year olds dance around the room in diffrent styles (hip hop ... read more

Hello from Venice! So far, this is one of the most incredible cities I've ever been to. It's hard to believe that people actually get around here the way they do. The canals are unreal. We took a ride on a gondola last night, which was wonderful, and Venice doesn't smell as bad as I'd heard. However, a lot of the people are jerks. I got chewed out by an accordian player last night for being too loud, told to move out of the way in an empty line, sent out of a store when it was closing, which is fine, but the guy was a jerk. Oh well, no big deal. The weather is incredibly hot, but not too much different from home. My two years of Italian are actually paying off - I know ... read more

Had a very long and full 22nd birthday. Spent the evening of the 21st and the wee hours of the morning in Milan with my friends from the first camp I worked at. Stayed up very late and then went back to say good bye to my host family in Milan at 8am. Met up with another tutor\councer in Milan and drove to our new camp in Largo (which is in North Italy near Vechenza and Verona, about an hour away from Venice). Arived in Largo in the early afternoon and met my VERY lovely new host family. I will be living with them for two weeks in their HUGE Italian country house (which is a nice change from the tiny apartment in smoggy Milan). I have my own room and bathroom. The father is away ... read more

Well I finally ventured outside the walls of Vicenza and took my first trip to Venezia (Venice). Awesome! I woke up at 7:30 to catch the 8:30 train. The station is a bout a 10min walk. I got my ticket but for some reason the ticket guy gave me a ticket for the 9:00 train that had a connection in Padova...so I called Cristina concerned and she just told me to get on the 8:30 and if they said anything to just act like a clueless tourist. So I did just that with no problems! About 10 mins into my train ride I started feeling very nauseaus and looking for a bathroom sign in case I had to make a quick run to puke. It was horrible! The AC wasn't too great so feeling hot and ... read more

Yesterday my new friend Cristina and I as well as Cristina's friend Tina and her baby Summer all went out to dinner at a restaurant which is located at the highest point of Vicenza. The view was incredible, you could see all of the city right from your dinner table. The food was amazing as well. Nothing like eating great food outdoors on top of a mountain! And of course we went back into town to grab some gelato! Well I actually got a granita to change it up a bit :) Afterwards, cristina and I went out on the town to see how the locals hang on a Friday night. The style is very interesting here...especially among men. One man's pants were so tight his crack was just hanging out and then there was one ... read more

Well I've been in Vicenza for about 3 days now! It is beautiful! My friend whose apt I'm staying at put me in contact with one of his friends who lives here since he is away in Afghanistan. Her name is Cristina also and she picked me up from the airport which was nice since it is almost an hour drive! There aren't really any rules on the highway which was quite interesting. So we got into town and unless you have a resident permit you can't drive through downtown so we parked the car in a lot and I rolled my 60 lb suitcase across the square. The elevator to the apt. barely fit the two Christina's and 60lb suitcase but we managed. The apt is so cute and is right downtown so I've been ... read more

Needed to drag Maria (Annie) from her hills in Salzburg but it was well worth the effort as this day’s drive proved to be as spectacular a day as you could imagine. We are now on day 15 (7th. May) and the morning out of Salzburg takes us around some of the nearby lakes and villages such as Mondsee, Gmunden and Halstat. We stopped for lunch at Halstat and could have stayed a lifetime. We spent much longer strolling through the town than we had planned even though there were only a couple of streets to cover. It was perched on the side of a steep mountain as it dropped away into the lake. As you moved back from the lake you climbed steep narrow stairways pass houses that appeared to be built on top of ... read more

It has only been a week since I returned and you would think I could get something posted before now. I did download the pictures earlier in the week, but never got the text typed. I did not have the best weather, but overall, it was a very good weekend. I would have to agree with those that say you can do Venice in a long weekend. It is not a place I would want to go for more than a few days and now that I have been there, it is not real high on my list to go back. Again, do not get me wrong, it is a lovely city and some place I would recommend to go, but it is also one of those places I do not think you need to back ... read more
