Sunday (Temp. 12deg. Overcast, drizzly) Breakfast in different hotel. Simple, nice coffee, best we have had. Back to hotel to go to toilet. Hit the streets, Duomo etc, Ponte Vecchio, Michelangelo lookout (nice view). Very very busy and crowded. Florence impressive, better if crowds were less. Lunch, pasta at fast food Italian style restaurant. Stroll expensive but nice, especially the wine. Takeaway pizza (dude cut pizza with scissors) more chianti, retired to room watched MTV, only thing in English on 25 channels. ... read more

When Cameron Diaz said in her movie My Best Friend's Wedding (my fave movie), "I love Florence," , I asked myself then why did she love Florence, what's in Florence to love about... When I went to Florence for a day, that line was in my mind. I went to Florence coming from Rome and I was expecting that I would love this place too.. Indeed, I did (just for a day)... I walked around, took pictures, rode the bus to the museums and of course shopped. I tried to take pictures of their policemen on horse but they are too shy or shall I say snobbish.. Traveling in Europe is a nice experience - best memories I ever had since it was the first time. ... read more

Hello from Florence! So on Friday I was in Venice. It was amazing, of course! Everything it's cracked up to be, if not more. The main thing I did all day was get lost :) I got off the train and wandered aimlessly before coming across something I'd been told to see - the Scuola di San Rocco (St Roch, who I learned alllllll about in Montpellier, where he was born). It has a whole lotof Tintoretti paintings in their original settings, whichis pretty cool. Me and my audioguide spent quite a while in there! The ground floor has lots of great paintings, but it's the upper hall you go to see - it's completely covered, walls and ceiling, with them! And if it's not paintings it's gilding or amazing wooden carvings around the lower walls. ... read more

We left Sienna after 2 weeks of language school. We learned but are by no means fluent or conversational! From Siena we went to Lastra a Signa, a small town 15 minutes outside of Florence. we rented an apartment for the next 5 weeks. The family renting this apartment to us, well, we and were theie first renters so they went overboard in helping us. They took us on a day trip with them to their beach house in a small town about 1-1/2 hour by car. There were no tourist here, just the Italians. We took lots of day trips on our own to Lucca, Pisa and of course Firenze which was only a 15 min train ride from Lastra Signa. The real highlight of our time here was having Aaron joine us for 2 ... read more

Don't Go To Florence on a Monday Everything was closed - on a Monday. Who would have guessed. Well, the only thing I really wanted to see in Florence was Michelangelo's "David" and the Medici Chapel. The Chapel was open, but "David" was not, and since we stayed an extra day in Rome, we had to cut down our stay in Florence. Oh, well! I'll see David some other time.... read more
