I know it’s been a long time coming, but here’s my next instalment...about a month or so ago now I went on a day trip to Milan, Italy. Don’t worry I wrote it all down in the bus on the way back, so we don’t have to rely on my shocking memory! :D So this is what I wrote on November 24: Before I start my blog on my day trip to Milan, I would first like to add one more tip to my last blog for Paris that I forgot last time. Tip #11: Learn at least how to say ‘I don’t speak French’, in French! I didn’t. In fact the only phrase I can say in French is ‘Je suis manatee’ (which means I am a manatee), which unfortunately (or fortunately, depending which way ... read more

..I'll miss you, Milano.. I'd been living in Milan for almost year and half, and it was time to say goodbye. I had first come to Italy back in 2004, for 3 weeks. I had made stop overs in Como, Venice, Rome, Milan, Florence and several smaller cities in tuscany. I was only in Milan for a day.. but who knew that i would come to live here..? It's a bit strange to think how I felt about the place the 1st time I went there.. and now after everything that's happened.. At first to barely have an impression of a foreign place.. and now having lived there and having friends who have called Milan their home their entire lives... I can still remember when I first arrived, like it was yesterday. It's been an ... read more

Hey all, We had a nice but brief stop over in Milan, the city of shops. The wierdest thing was seeing Prada, Gucci, McDonalds and Rebecca all on the four points of the main shopping arcade. Becs refused jewellery, whats a guy to do, (try and buy it anyway). We got some abuse from more street sellers. The Doumo was fairly impressive. Shot, sweet and miserable weather. Lots of Love Us xxxxxxxxxxx... read more

....or “what a mistake-a to make-a!” NOT! Al's Top Travel Tip for Italy - GO! That's it. Nothing else. Well, maybe go in October or November. It's cooler, quieter and much more sensible. This is possibly one of the coolest countries to visit and it's cities, it's people and it's food make it worth it. I think it may have topped the list of countries to come back to. Well, we have to. I still haven't seen everything in the Vatican Museums. More on that later! Seriously though, we have both really loved being in Italy, it's a fabulous country to travel in and there's so much to see, do, drink and eat that it'll be a shame to leave really. One quick note before we begin - if at any point below you read the ... read more

Monumental Cemetery isn't quite the tourist attraction that "The Last Supper" is so it was no problem getting to it. And I hope to be back and see more of the grounds. One morning was not enough time. It really is an open air sculpture museum. It is so moving, that at times I felt like I was intruding on people's intimate moments of sorrow. What the families who commissioned the art must have conveyed to the artist! These sculptures are beautiful. (I finally figured out how to fix all of my vertical video, so this little clip is now easy to watch) This was our last day in Milan. The next morning we left for Bellusco and Keith's business portion of the trip. The last photo is Keith's reaction to a risqué store window! ... read more

Grown men squeezed into these go carts, some whizzed by and some puttered by. This was a team building event to cap off the regional meeting. The men got to show off their driving skills, or be run over by those showing off their driving skills! Keith thought he was speeding around the track until he saw the video!! ( This video is filmed correctly, leave your laptops on the desk!) After the go carts,we all were treated to a delicious meal in a little restuarant, our hosts were very gracious. This town is much like anything we might have back in the states where a paper plant would be located. It is good to see how much alike our country sides are. While the guys were in the office that day I stayed behind at ... read more

Ciao tutti! Saluto della bella Italia. After arriving at Malpensa airport I took a bus to Milano Centrale and then the train to Torino Porta Nuova. There I met Stefano and Fabio. They live in Lanzo Torinese and Germagnano (two small villages outside Turin, near the mountains...not very far from France...with 5000 and 1500 inhabitants). The family of Stefano were very very friendly, also his sisters (Margherita and Federica)....I can't complain! None of them speak English, but Stefano's father knows a lot of English words and he can say a few sentences. The parents are both retired and the father also makes very nice paintings, and he gave me a small one as a present when I left. I also met almost all the friends of Stefano....he has a large group of friends who meet each ... read more

Ciao! I figured the theme of this entry would be the realization that, somehow, my semester abroad is almost over. Like, 47 days from now I will be getting on a plane and going home. Don't get me wrong, it's going to be amazing to be home, but it seems like I haven't done everything that I wanted to do here! So this weekend I decided to take day trips to places nearby that I had wanted to see but never had free time to make the trip. Saturday I went to Lake Como with Alex, Michelle, Katie, Katie's mom and Katie's mom's friend who she traveled with. We had a wonderful, relaxing afternoon, walking around the lake and having a nice lunch, taking the funicular/lift up to the top of one of the hills to ... read more

Arrived late at night in Milan so went straight to the hostel. This morning got up, met a Korean girl living in Sweden and travelled around with her for the day. Was gonna mail a back of my stuff home....so was wandering around for the post-office... but..11am....everywhere is SO DEAD!!! Thought it was a post-halloween thing, but didnt realize it was a national holiday till we got to the post-office!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!__" So, after that shock, we walked around the dead city......besides the duomo....everywhere is really dead...... The Duomo was very nice though!! its one of the big churches with LOADS of gothic tower...this one, at a point I looked at it and thought it actually had too many towers...HAAAA!!! That done, wandered around the neighbourhood, some old people had their tables out selling old postcards and ... read more

On the 7th day, 6 October, we went to Italy. Keith had a meeting in Bellusco, which is outside of Milan, so off we go! Keep in mind that at this point I'm still in culture shock and jet lagged. Not sure what day it is, or what country I'm in! Like I said before, being tourist, what I'm about to write is so cliché... Keith has been buying up tour books and has our itinerary planned. (One quick explanation about the video. I didn't yet know how to work the camera, so view this entry on a laptop so you can turn it on it's side. That way the picture will be straight up!! Or lean your head to the side and enjoy my camera angle) The main square is close to our hotel, but ... read more
